I recently tried to sign up for the last FM. Everytime I try to play a track from a band I get something completely different. Why? I try playing Guru Guru and I get Ash Ra. Then I tried Ashra and got a Paternoster track. Good thing it`s free for the first thirty tracks. Then I`ll cancel.

It's free constantly.
I'm not sure what your problem is, honestly. Did you install everything correctly? What's your user page? |

I don't believe that it is free in Canada. I remember Bern or one of the other members from Canada saying that Last FM was not available in Canada.

Shouldn't you take this up with last.fm?

Sounds like you tried the artist radio ... but that should be free in Canada, too. Anyway, it's not something you can use to select tracks and listen to them. Neither can non-internet radio stations ... the music they play must be sufficiently randomized - in exchange it's free for the listener and "nearly" free for the service provider. So when you type in "Guru Guru" you'll get random music which - according to last.fm playlist statistics and tagging - is similar to Guru Guru. If you want free access to individual tracks, here's my recommendation: http://www.napster.ca/ |

It`s free for the first 30 tracks. Then it`s $3.99/ month. It`s crazy I tried for about half an hour and it kept playing tracks that were different from the ones I selected. F**k that noise. I`ll try the Napster suggestiuon.
Edit : Woa ! Napster too complicate for me. Why can`t these things just be straight forward.? Edited by Vibrationbaby - November 06 2009 at 12:46 |

I forgot about you. Maybe it was the French speaking Canadians that were being left out.? Or maybe I am thinking about something else. I thought that the person in question said that only a certain number of Canadians were allowed to use their program for free and once the limit was reached it became pay to use. Or maybe I didn't smoke enough funny stuff when I was younger and I am hallucinating now in my old age.

If it wasn't Bern, then I think it was June that told us that she couldn't access Last.FM for free.

Well, I`m in Montréal and like I said it`s free for the first 30 tracks. I think these two members are in Montréal as well.

They are truly evil after all. I've been using them for quite a while am thoroughly convinced. Maybe the problem is that you didn't start with first fm? Edited by Slartibartfast - November 06 2009 at 13:35 |

I dunno I got a bit of a life myself, a wife, two dogs, a car to work on, my own business, live friends who don`t live in cyberspace, play hockey etc. etc. I guess I`m not normal. |

It's free to create an account, but it takes a subscription (4 dollars a month) to listen to the last.fm radio. Vibbaby is right. That's how it works everywhere, at least that's what I know.

It is free for me to use indefinitely. I know that there is a paid for version, but I don't see the point. I get all the usability I want out of it for free. Maybe it is only like that in USA?
Edit: Where do I need a subscription to listen to the radio? If you live outside the US, UK or Germany you can try out Last.fm Radio with a free 30-track trial, after which a subscription is required to listen to it. Off the FAQ I have no idea why it would play something other than what you want, unless you are using the radio, which plays similar music to the band you play. Then you don't need last.fm, computers, or anything technology related. |

You create an account and sign up for the flatrate, then you browse for artists and click on their albums/tracks to listen to them. How's that complicated? Alternatively you can install their Windows application and download the tracks to your computer, or sign up for the To-Go flatrate and listen to the tracks on mobile players, but the most basic form of usage is that you simply stream the tracks in the browser. |
