Yeah another game of terrible officiating. In the first Ryan Howard most likely should have been called on strikes since those balls were borderline at worst. Then in the 4th he refused to give Blanton anything at the knees which he had been calling all night. Frustrating. I won't complain with the end result though.

I hate when players actions are explain by some sort of psychology, but it seemed to me that Broxton had that HR to Stairs lingering somewhere in his head. No reason to throw him pitches like that the guy is hitting under the Mendoza line.

I don't expect Padilla to have the same results again against this lineup. His fastball was full of movement in LA, but the Phillies were not very patient. Yes it's hard to be patient 0-1, but you need to have better at bats than they managed that game. Also, his results in this ballpark are historically not too hot.

Game will ultimately ride on whether 2008 Hamels shows up or whiney, pathetic, 2009 Hamels shows up.

^ It just irks me that when you have too very good teams playing with such passion subject to the idiocy of some guy who doesn't have a clue. I thought Manny was going to thump him after he called a strike in the exact same location he called a ball.  It is tough enough to hit a baseball anyway then add to the fact you really don't know what was going to be called a strike makes it that much tougher.  On the other side the pitcher doesn't know what location he has to work with to get his best pitch over. It wasn't just the Dodgers that affected.  I know Either walked on strike three in the inning the Dodgers got two runs.

I just hope they review this stuff. That guy should not be calling balls and strikes at this level.  I know there is always a pitch or two that is close but most good umps get it 98% of the time.

you might have something with Broxton but others have pointed to the 18 minute futile top of the ninth that he may have stiffened up some.  Whatever he was wild to the next guy too so it is hard to say.  He seemed to get his control back with the second pinch hitter. He just missed his spot by a couple of inches on Rollins hit.  The pitch was supposed to go to the outside corner and he threw it over the plate. Happens.

That being said I hope Paddilla keeps his form he has had over the last month or so.  I know his track record would say no but he is very happy about his role with the Dodgers and that can affect his performance too. I think movement of the pitch will depend on how cold it is.  Speaking of weather if it does come back to LA the temps are going to be in the 90's Friday and Saturday with low humidity.

Exactly.  Here's the perfect opportunity for him to man up and close it out.

Looks like we are getting closer and closer to that Yankees/Phillies World Series

CC has pitched amazingly, 8 innings, 1 run....all on 3 days rest.
Offense was clicking. Just great

What is with the umpiring in these games? Have they gotten that bad so quickly?

Padilla performed as I thought he would. I expected the Phillies to progress, but it's still amazing now that its here.

The Dodgers and the Yankees are two of my three most hated teams in MLB, but I have to say that Joe Torre is a class act. Its rare you see managers so respectful in their post-game interviews. Apparently, in his interations around the city over the past 3 days he was very fan friendly and a good tipper. So that's my positive thing to say about the Dodgers.

20 straight fastballs to open the game is not the best way to pitch.  I really would like to know what happened there if that was Martin or Paddilla.

Joe Torre is a class act and the Dodgers have some very classy players as well. I remember Matt Kemp giving huge props to Torry Hunter earlier this year after a series with the Angels. They aren't going anywhere so I guess hopefully a return to the playoffs next year and maybe get over the hump.

^ You know that is crap.  He was pulled out of the game for defensive purposes and could not be inserted back in.  He has done this all year so why now is that a big deal?  I have seen him several times in street clothes congratulating his teammates after a victory just like this.  What good could he have done to help stop them from losing that game? BTW Pitchers do it all the time why doesn't someone call them out.  Manny does some wierd things sometimes but I don't think this is an issue.

BTW Outstanding game between Angels and Yanks last night. I thought the Yanks had them but Angels came right back.

Yeah, manny isn't pulling those shinanegans anymore.....for now!

Well, it has become interesting. Let's see if the Yanks can finally pull this out in front of the home crowd.
And what is what those Angels? Even back when they were terrible and the Yanks good they beat us.

Baseball really must be a mental game

You had a pitcher dangling fastballs in the middle of the plate. He was basically doing the hitting for The Angels who I believed to be trying to lose the game when Lackey was pulled.

I don't think the Angels force a game 7.

If it does go 7 you really have to like the Phillies chances. Talk about a rested pitching staff.

I already like our chances, but I'm certainly hoping for a Game 7. Preferably a Game 7 where the Yankees win in the bottom of the 48th inning.

If that happens they'll be pulling Keith Olbermann out of the stands to pitch.
