apart from this claimed indent option (not easy to implement as for my understanding) I want to point out that we have Album Data Standards (not officially published yet - don't ask me why)
as for that the initial example should be edited like that 1. 21st Century Schizoid Man Mirrors (7:20) 2. I Talk To The Wind (6:05) 3. Epitaph (8:47) - a. March For No Reason - b. Tomorrow And Tomorrow 4. Moonchild (12:11) - a. The Dream - b. The Illusion 5. The Court Of The Crimson King (9:22) - a. The Return Of The Fire Witch - b. The Dance Of The Puppets Edited by Rivertree - September 16 2009 at 10:04 |

Just a bump here. I happen to think that this teeny little indent thing is hugely important to the website... I guess I'm weird like that.
If we don't enable an actual indent in the track listing, I vote that we at least normalize and standardize all the multi-part layout. There are so many with a) and i. and ...I) and all that. I'm willing to help out with whatever we choose to do, but I'm really rooting for the first... |

Never said I didn't like it, or had a problem with it. But when somebody re-writes my hard work to simply change capitalization into lower-case (the format I use is following the guidlines), I find it a bit odd and obsessive. Sorry if I seemed like I was complaining. |

Oh, I think you're misunderstanding me a bit. The indent thing is the only thing I want to change. I really would love to be able to indent.
However, I am in complete agreement with the formatting laid down by the founders. That's what I correct things to. I am trying to make all the track listings I find in line with that style of layout. That's what I do. I don't make them my own style, because that would be stupid and selfish. I just see the indentation issue as something separate that would tremendously benefit the site. (And is it really that hard of a thing to do? I know nothing about all that, but to me it would seem to be a simple thing to allow.) |

I can understand the ident complaint.I would like to be able to ident myself, especially with all the multi-part epics listed here.
As far as the other complaints...the founder and owners of this site want info displayed like this:
1. Song Title (track time)
If possible Total Time (time) at the bottom of the track listing.
For musicians listed
- Band Member / guitar,vocals
You guys might not like it,but the founder of this site has set up these guidelines and that is the way he wants it.Without them, there wouldn't be a PA.They spend their free time and their money on this site, and we should respect their wishes.

Ha. I'm OCD like that. Though I didn't do the set you mentioned.
The thing is, if they make it available, people will start fixing them. I know I've fixed or updated at least a good dozen albums with multi-part songs like this, and I tried for a while to get them to work. They underestimate just how few anal reviewers they have who would love to tidy up parts of the site. As soon as I found out I could a few months ago, I've fixed almost every shaky album I've run into. They could just give me the power to do it, and I'd run through and get tons of popular ones nicely sorted in a day or two. Hehe. |

^ They are weird about album info rules and regs. When I recently put all the work into adding the entirety of Gaia Consort's discography, I chose to capitalize the instruments when listing musicians, as I have seen other sites to. As soon as I was finished, a site admin was hot on my heels and changing everything I just wrote into lower-case words. Why such OCD concerning certain formats?
I think your idea in terms of track listing would be really good, but don't expect it to be changed by this point. Way too much work to go back through all the albums with split tracks and indent the letters. |

Why is this not in the Improve the Site section? Hm. I'm not talking about a bug. I'm talking about a suggestion for dramatically improving the readability of thousands of important albums' track listings...

Now, I'm starting to have a problem. I've been going around and assuaging my OCD by fixing bungled album listings. You know, making sure the tracks are spelled right, the formatting isn't wild, etc. But there's a serious need that has to be addressed, or at least explained to me how to address.
Why can't we indent when we're editing track listings? I mean, think about it. This music site against all others, it still needs it more. All these multi-part epics that have eight subtracks all listed along the same line as the others. I was going in to try to work the new rerelease bonus track info into In the Court of the Crimson King, and that was when the dam broke. It looks like this now: 1. 21st Century schizoid man Mirrors (7:20) 1. 21st Century schizoid man Mirrors (7:20) Is there something wrong with me, or is that not much more readable? That's how it's usually listed on the albums in question, anyways. Thoughts? Edited by LiquidEternity - August 26 2009 at 14:05 |
