A Little Zappa story...

I generally do not care that much for FZ's '80s stuff, but now and then...

So my wife gets home from work last night.  I'm listening to some music.  She wants to hear In France.  No problem there.  But that gets me on a FZ jag.  We listen to Harder Than Your Husband DoreenGoblin GirlFine GirlEasy Meat.  At this point I've had too much beer.  We wander into Catholic Girls,  which of course then ya have to hear Jewish Princess.  And then a little Bobby Brown.  That wet t-shirt night one, ya know...Mary from Canoga Park...her father is waiting for her in the tool shed...home is where the heart is.  Multiple versions of Sharleena.

Wife should know better after 25+ years to get me going.

Point being (if there is one) that a ton of that FZ output in the '80s (yeah, we were hangin' about a bit in the late '70s as well)  is pretty damned good.  In fact just awesome.

This Zappa thing, I got it from the toilet seat I'm sure....
Can you tell me where we're headin'?
Lincoln County Road or Armageddon.

I have been listening to Zappa a ton lately, I can't get enough.

In any event, my friends know I'm weird enough to enjoy his stuff. We were listening to Live in New York tonight in the car, and after that a few minutes before we got home I put on Studio Tan, and they were just weirded out by "The Adventures of Gregarry Pecarry".

Then we had a prog dance party around a campfire for 3 people (And we made a dance to Disco Queen).

I stopped caring long ago as to why my girlfriend cringed at Zappa. I put myself through all the psychological approaches and nothing worked. I really don't care in the present day if my wife likes Zappa or dislikes Zappa. I have surpassed this level long ago. It's not worth the effort that's put  into converting someone. When it's a TURN OF THE CARDS, most of the time it is more worthy to simply say  ' No thank you, I don't like the style of Southern or Classic rock. Instead of explaining why. It's much easier to say I Can't Relate To The Music Business, when asked why you are no longer performing. Instead of wasting your time explaining justice to a person that takes the media as word  of gospel.

Whether it's you promoting the idea of Zappa or someone turning you on to mainstream rock, the idea for keeping yourself sane, is to be as brief as possible. IF THEY TOTALLY DISLIKE ZAPPA, then they don't deserve hearing the history and all the energy that one can waste in attempting to explain it. I Love JOE'S GARAGE and various 80's releases. I seem to surf through the tracks not playing some of these great Zappa titles in their entirety. I love Them or US.
