The obligatory hi thread : D

Hi there!

My name is Witold, I'm 17 years old and I live in the Netherlands (which obviously makes my international nickname "Weed"). I discovered progressive music about six months ago, starting with Porcupine Tree and later finding out about all the classic prog rock bands. I've been lurking on PA for a month or so and finally decided to sign up, so yeah : 3 I enjoy a huge variety of progressive rock music, from Van der Graaf Generator to Opeth and everything in between basically, (although the budget of a 17 years old kid is pathetically small and I've only managed to afford about 20 CDs as of yet) and I hope to expand my knowledge of progressive music much further in the near future... and maybe get into King Crimson and RIO/Avant-Prog because that stuff is pretty damn hard to stomach

Welcome! Any person with a duck avatar is more than welcome, so come on up. Seeing you like Van der Graaf, Opeth and Porcupine Tree and have issues with King Crimson, I suggest you start with either the Larks Tongues in Aspic or Red album by King Crimson, Larks Tongues preferred.

If you don't like Klassic Crimson, shoot for The Power to Believe.

That one is one of my favorites from that band.

For me personally, Camel's best of that trio is Moonmadness, with The Snow Goose as a close second.  Mirage is very good, but for me, doesn't compare to the other two.

May I also suggest some classic Kansas?

 All right then! King Crimson, Camel and Kansas it is : D They have a very sexy discount for classic prog records at my local store so I should be able to get all three of them for 25 bucks. Thanks for all the recommendations guys o: there's so much left to buy and listen to... it's a little overwhelming O.o I'll let you know what I purchased when I get back in a few hours!

Hi guys, I'm back and was more or less successful in my quest for new CDs. The Snow Goose was the only CD of Camel's golden era they had, so I got that one. I also bought In the Court of the Crimson King, which I will simply play regularly until I start liking it <__< I'm that stubborn. Unfortunately they didn't have anything by Kansas there so I got the latest record by Mew instead - an indie art rock dream popish band (it's impossible to describe really) I enjoy very much. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

I just worked my way through ITCotCK and definitely enjoyed some parts of it (Epitaph, ITCotCK) but yeah, Moonchild... I have no idea what to think of it. It doesn't make any sense to my ears :c

Maybe some time in the future (: I've noticed on the forums that you enjoy Porcupine Tree as well, will you be attending their concert on the 12th of October?

King Crimson is one of the most eclectic bands in the history of rock music, that's for sure...but I've never given a single one of their albums five stars so far on this site.  So don't despair if you find they are not one of your favorite bands.  They certainly are not one of mine (although I have tremendous respect for every incarnation of the group).
