I know this is an odd suggestion for the site, but been thinking of this feature where it "states" an average of how many posts you post per day, and find it to be quite useless, though primarly could be intimidating for some. Not sure if many feel that way, so I just want to know your opinion about it, hopefully somebody will post here. Also the fact that it's not "accurate" makes it even more useless, sorry Max or whoever added the feature, don't mean to offend you.

Have you seen Tony R's profile?
Here it is: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=2153 How someone has 537.71 average posts a DAY, I don't know... I think it is a fairly useless feature, but it is a part of nearly every web forum, so I don't think its really damaging or needs to be removed. |

All jokes aside, I actually kind of like the feature. Sure it doesn't do anything meaningful, but it is kind of fun I guess to keep your number of posts above a certain average.
I would just say to not go through the hassle of deleting it, when there are no really negative sides to it, but there are some people who may like it. As for being intimidated, well I don't have that problem at 4.5 posts per day, but I guess those people with less than one post a day may feel it a little, but that's only because they aren't dedicated to the forum in the first place. ^That's not the intimidating way I was stating, quite the contrary Jeff to tell you the truth. I meant that people with very high "posts per day" can feel intimidated or ashamed, which I'm starting to feel kind of, though I'm sure some others feel the same.

I kinda know what you mean... My friends called me a "form whore" when I told them I had over 20 posts a day I didn't/don't really care to be honest, though. |

I guess you could get embarrassed on either end. Should there maybe be an option where you could show how many posts per day if you want to or have possibly have it hidden? |

If you are embarassed by your posts per day you can either stop being embarassed and give into the internet's abyss, or you can stop posting. It's simple, really. ;-)

I say take it down, personally. Deleting things from the site isn't always easier than adding something, but a feature as default and basic as this I'm sure could be rid of quite quickly and fairly hassle-free.

I understand the points some people have raised as to why it should be removed, but I don't see how they're sincere problems. IE - I agree. -Joel |

If you'll read my post, you'll see perfectly why I think it should be done.
I agree, it isn't a matter of life or death, but since everybody agrees that it is useless anyway, and I'm sure it won't take much effort at all to do away with it . . . well . . . why not? Now if getting rid of this feature requires the site admins to put work in that is the equivalent of scaling Mt. bloody Everest, then leave it alone. Otherwise, though, I say go ahead and get rid of the butt-ugly thing. |

I've never accidentally stumbled upon my average post count, the couple of times I've checked it out has been from pure interest. So if someone is intimidated by whatever the number may be, I believe they can choose to leave it alone, just don't look at it. It requires a couple of clicks, you know, it's not right in front of everybody's eyes all the time.

I agree with that, actually... Its not really at all useful, and it doesn't achieve much, but why should the Admins bother with killing the feature now? Edited by progkidjoel - August 22 2009 at 01:46 |
