Hi,

Correct me if I am not seeing this ... with the proper eye.

I just came across the album Tri-sector and listened to it ... and it was ok ... but it did not have anywhere near the experience for listening to it that I did 30 years ago listening to "H to He" or "Pawn Hearts" or "Godbluff" or "Still Life" ...or "The Quiet Zone/ The Pleasure Dome" ... the emotional and poetic content was sublime and so special ... and all of a sudden I'm listening to Tri-Sector and ... I just hear words ... I went back and played Godbluff and Still Life and ... I could hear the emotional feel ... went back to Tri-Sector ... dry ... totally dry ...

I don't know if it is me or not ... I, all of a sudden felt re-hashed and the same thing over again.

I have over 20 Hammill albums and these VDGG albums ... and I was just astounded that I had never felt that the music was repeating itself, or that Peter was repeating itself ... and I think he is now ... I don't see that "experiment" edge that was there before that added so much to the feel of the music in a solo or the group ... and now, in that album, I pretty much heard the same instrumentation over and over ... and I did not feel there was a link to some of the music and the lyrics ... like it was hurried up maybe?

I did pick up the one DVD of Peter's and I can not tell you which one it is with VDGG and for some reason, compared to the albums I also felt the isolation in the singing and music ... like it was not happening.

I like his work a lot ... but found it strange that after all this time this connection would not be there ... it should be easier to see it now ...

I haven't bought the DVD but I have watched the concert several times on a (legal) Dutch site that was allowed to show all concerts performed in Paradiso. Unfortunately record companies weren't very happy with it so it was shut down. The concert is pretty good, though not every song is among my VDGG favorites. I saw on PA that the concert is also released as a CD and I think I would prefer that, as the band is pretty stiff on stage. I also like VDGG much more with Jackson in it, and I feel the band misses something without a sax.

I guess Amazon just didn't have a very big stock of the DVD, as VDGG isn't among the most popular bands on earth.
