I guess I'd vote for Fripp, even though I like Steve Howe better as a guitar player, but I don't know Wilson and Akerfeldt, so I won't vote. I think Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman should have been candidates as well.

Since this is modern and classic prog poll, if it had been me doing it, I would have included Toby Driver.  And due to my biases, I would have included Christian Vander, Chris Cutler, Dave Stewart, Robert Wyatt, and Damo Suzuki.  Mind you, I wouldn't think of asking this particular question, so it's a moot point. ;)

It's hard to beat Mr Fripp in this poll. The only person who could be closer to him and comes to my mind is Peter Gabriel.

I think Bob ran away with this thread because of the competition. Casting no aspersions on the other contenders, I would point out that Mr. Fripp not only lead his group, but is one of the most prolific writers/thinkers on the topic of Prog. Additionally, he has launched/helped the careers of more fellow artists, he has established a teaching method, he has created a record label, he has triumphantly challenged the recording industry's modus operendi, and he has made himself relevent to the modern mindset thanks, in part, to the appreciation of Tool. Have any of the others done all of this while maintining a relevent career for more than 40 years? Fripp is a true Renaissance Man and, while the others are giants as well, they just haven't done it for as long as, or to the extent that Fripp has.

No vote. I don't want to participate in a King of Prog election because there are some more potential candidates outside this selection and I don't know who is the one I'd vote for. The results are too predictible here. And whether Fripp is the rightful King I don't know, but Steven Wilson is the Crown Prince.

"Who is the heir apparent to Fripp's throne?" could make for an interesting discussion.
But, too much procrastiposting for me, it's time to as much work done as the constant distractions of young children will allow.

Only Robert Fripp can attend at the title, i really like brave murder day yes but i don't really think Mikael Akerfeldt could be considered a king of prog.
The same i say for the other two, porcupine and yes... mmm
i think the title should go to Christian Vander, and like others said Daevid Allen would be the king's fool^^

in this case i will vote robert fripp of course.
