This week my ISP introduced a new line of dedicated servers:

http://www.hetzner.de/en/hosting/produktmatrix/rootserver-produktmatrix/

Since I know that performance is very important especially for an interactive website like Progfreak.com, I ordered the EQ 4 server yesterday.

I'll probably update the server later tonight or tomorrow ... since it involves a change of IP address the website will probably be offline for about an hour, including the signature images - so don't be alarmed if that happens.

Another reason for creating this thread is to promote Hetzner.de ... I'm very happy with their services, haven't had a single issue to complain about in many years. Smile

Thank you for the warning.  I hope that the update goes smoothly.

I don't think there'll be any problems - it's basically just a hardware change, all the software pretty much stays the same. Unfortunately the downtime can't be avoided though, since a change of the IP address takes some time (the DNS servers take their time until they process the change, and during that time I can't keep the old server online since any changes would be lost).

Sounds good to me.  When it comes to computer technology, I generally find that things never go as smoothly as I expect them too. LOL

Wow - I didn't think I could do it that fast. The new server is already up and running, now we'll just have to wait for the DNS to update ...
