I must say they I don't think they belong here. Their prog connections is very limited. Apart from interesting psych/beat debut (not prog though) and some later with jazz funky elements (Tihomir Pop Asanovic keyboard player of TIME, SEPTEMBER was occassional member at times), the bulk of their musical work is pop rock at best, with too many schlager/vocal pop/easy listening soft melodies. Let us not confuse our personal preferences with more or less objective guidelines about what constitutes progressive rock and its sub-genres. My avatar represents PRO ARTE debut LP from 1970, which I think is important early domestic release of beat/rock music in Yugoslavia. But that does not mean it justifies their addition here. They released a dozen of LP albums and more than 20 singles. 95% of that is simple pop song. |

Wow! Where did you get these? The only place that I know that could remotely have those albums is Dallas Music Shop..which is, like 15 minutes from my home, so send a PM next time when you're here again so we can have a beer! |

it was probably that shop...don't remember the name exactly.
To be honest I visited two shops: the first at the great multi-floor variety shop (at 4th floor) in the central square and the other was near the dock besides a very nice XIX century palace (yellow coloured). There is the head office of the italian consulate ...

Thanks, Mandy.
Smak are really great. I know you don't have that only because you didn't find any at the music shop you went to.
I also have a compilation that features the whole Smak debut plus a half of the EP Satelit. Fantastic music!!
Crna Dama is more polite and refine. Tegoba is simply amazing. A highly recommended album (and I know you don't need any further information to believe me...).

Andrea, thanks for a nice and brief review of Dugme's "Eto baš hoću" ! ![]() I am doing image cover updates. I started with Yugo bands... I think now the covers look better and in some cases I inserted original LP vinyl covers instead of later CD reissues, like BIJELO DUGME for instance....

As I am from Serbia (one of the ex-former Yugoslav republics), I am pretty conversant with the scene, and as the best represents I would mention bands as Smak, Leb i Sol, Time, Korni Grupa, and many more.

Y
ou know what...I was wondering...could a PA be a home for artist such is Rambo Amadeus? I guess some purist will lift their prog swords in anger, since his first two albums are more or less rap music (although highly parodising). But as he evolved he started incorporating avant music, jazz-rock, Balkan folk, snippets of opera and what not. And he's one hell of a guitar player! I saw him couple of times live, and that was always a rewarding listening experience. What a killer of a jazz rock band! |

Rambo is amazing, especially in concert! You are right about highly sophisticated fusion of rock, folk, pop, jazz and funk elements in his music. Add to this a hilarious lyrics, sampling, parody and satire and you get a sort of hip-hop Zappa... Absolutely recommended!
On a slightly different topic, I just saw LET 3 in Sarajevo last week. Apart from their debatable aestethics and playing with nudity and obscenity, I found their music extremely powerful and non-standard rock. I think that a mere fact that these guys covered Crimson's "Schizoid man", Floyd "Emily" or Purple's "Child in Time", albeit in a very odd fashion, and their art/theatrical on stage approach, makes them interesting for PA community.... (not to mention the outrageous project called "Necuveno" when they issued a disc with nothing recorded on it.... )

Dobro jutro!
![]() You're reading my mind. I was thinking about Let 3 too...and here's my opinion. Of course, they started as a punk outpit (but with strong art attitude in "Strukturne Ptice" project - hence the name) and evolved into something much more sophisticated. By the mid-90's period they were already quite distant from punk with their music. "Peace" is a furious avant potpouree of heavy rock, electronica, folk, industrial, prog and what not. In the meantime, they started doing music for the theatre (and invented an instrument called "stropofon" ![]() Of course, their live performances are a whole debauchery of various people (and animals!) on stage, costumes, scenery...but you know it! Out of curiosity, are they still pulling rose flowers out of their anuses on stage? I dislike what are doing today (in public) and I think they overdid it a bit...with all that phallic things, explicit masturbation and stuff. But they know how to shock and how to entertain...they're clever in all that stupidity! Oh, and they are always denying any concept of "parodizing"...hm. "Enchant me!" "Oh, I will." *bumps an oversized polystyrene penis into his forehead* ![]() |

Ciao Clarke,
I couldn't agree more with you on Let 3! Except I did not listen to the whole last album, but "Dijete u vremenu" (clashing Deep Purple with Shaban Shaulic) is hilarious!
![]() Let's keep an eye on them for possible addition....
