I'll not have it be said that we in Crossover do not have a sense of humour, but I seriously wonder what the reaction would be if I created similar polls for other genres.
equivalents would be:
Genesis/Bacamarte/Anglagard
Jethro Tull/Gryphon/Strawbs
Ayreon/Fates Warning/Riverside
Ash Ra Temple/Agitation Free/Amon Duul II
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum/Henry Cow/Frank Zappa

School is the only real prog (and good song) of supertramp.

I actually prefer the title cut, mostly because it has the fewest whiney vocals and a good instrumental run. either way, it's slim pickins

To add further....as much as I like ELP I don't wish to see them play a show(canceled reunion tour) in which makes up 90% of a show that I have seen them play in the 70's,80's and 90's. Nothing new or interesting added. Primus has the same problem. Nothing new from them since Antipop(I don't count the Animals CD,they played much of that on their Fromage tour) yet when they do play it is the same setlist that they played 10-15 years ago. Give me some creativity. You got incredibly talented people yet they rehash their music from their glory days. Rant,rant,rant,rant.

I know, haha. That's actually an interesting concept there. Some of the groupings work better than others though.

The Zeuhl result didn't surprise me, Symph did, the RIO/Avant was never going to be smooth as I have a certain fondness for all three of those bands.

I agree, Symph was very surprising. I absolutely love Henry Cow and Zappa. I like SGM, but I only have one album and haven't heard it much yet.

Easy question:
1.- It'a a blasphemy to even mention peter Gabriel, the frontman of one of the pioeneer and probably more popular Prog band, the first three albums of his sooo career were clearly Progressive, he is the leader of a new softer form of Folk Prog called World Music, and 49 years in the busieness.
2.-´Moody Blues had an clearly Symphonic related album when everybody was doing simpler music (Days of Future Passed) and a Prog masterpiece in "Long Dostance Voyager" with patrick Moraz
3.- Supertramp IMO doesn't have a single fully Prog album, I believe should be in Prog related at the most. but still somehow important because of their popularity, even when the obvious choice here.
And for those who mention Kansas:
1.- They were in the Prog scenario almost before everybody else
2.- They were one of the first bands to combine the use of violin with keyboards as lead instruments.
3.- They were the frst band that added Country and Hard Rock elements to Symphonic.
4.- The most distinctive and relevant USA Prog band of history.
Please, I know that for some people if you were not born in England you are not Prog, but this is absurd IMO.

Ivan,
you remind me Linda (thethreefates) that used to react everytime someone dared to say that ELP is anything less than perfect. After a while people started to do it on purpose to enjoy her's "pavlovic behaviour".
I agree with you about Kansas as you allready know. You don't have to defend them anytime there's a nusty post about them. There are quite a lot of us (Kansas lovers) in this site and if others do not share this love it's their own problem.

Not only Kansas OMRI, when a Prog band is mentioned in a derogative way, i come in, I'm the first to say Kansas was far from perfect and that they had the bad luck to be coetaneous with the AOR movement of the end of 70's, reason why it's sent in the same sack with STYX, TOTO, BOSTON, etc, if you add the fact they are from USA, makes the case worst.
It's also ttruth that most of the people who attack Kansas, know them because of Dust in the wind and Carry on My Wayward Son or their horrendous 80's incarnation.
But if Genesis, Kansas, Yes, Anglagard, Magenta, or any other band that deserves respect is called a non transcendetal band, I will have something to say.
Kansas is far from perfect, but they were there when Prog was young and released at least 5 solid Prog albums.

I have a cousin who always calls Supertramp Superramp. Kingfriso (and other Dutchmen) will get this one  but English is our language so let me translate: Superdisaster would be it.
I personally do not 100% agree there but I could easily live without this band on PA. Just Fool's Overture and Crime of the Century (song) are progressive and acceptable for me as well as the last minute of Goodbye Stranger which is really great. All the others are wasted on me.
