If you had carte blanche to decide what the symphonic top twenty looked like, what would be your picks, and in what order?

A ton of Yes, Selling England, and then I'd just quit and let someone else take over.

My River Flows is their best - but you could also try I Move.  Either way you won't be disappointed.  Actually, a really, really excellent intro would be their live set, Live at Nearfest.  Easily one of the best prog live sets I own.

I'm not a big fan of modern symph or neo in general, but IZZ really gets it done for me.

Will be checking them out, but if you like them so much, I am suspicious of it...Wink

I like them a lot too, so it should be safe.  No relation whatsoever to Henry Cow or Magma.

Damn!  Two places for Aphrodite's Child.

I must ask, how does it sound?  I'm very intrigued, especially coming from you two stalwarts!

I'm going to go ahead and count Italian Symphonic (I know it's not a genre anymore, I'm referring to symphonic prog from Italy), if this is cheating I apologize

1. Yes - Close to the Edge
2. ELP - Tarkus
3. PFM - Per Un Amico
4. PFM - Storia di un minuto
5. Yes - The Yes Album
6. ELP - Brain Salad Surgery
7. Le Orme - Felona E Sorona
8. Atmosphera - Lady of Shalott
9. Yes - Tales From Topographic Oceans
10. Quella Vecchia Locanda - Quella Vecchia Locanda
11. Refugee - Refugee
12. Camel - Moonmadness
13. Banco del Mutuo Soccorso - Io sono nato libero
14. Novalis - Sommerabend
15. ELP - ELP
16. Grobschnitt - Rockpommel's Land
17. Triumvirat - Illusions On A Double Dimple
18. Yes - Fragile
19. PFM - Chocolate Kings
20. Locanda Delle Fate - Forse Le Lucciole Non Si Amano Piu'

was going off the megalist I've been constructing for several years now and I don't think I skipped over anything but the possibility is there because these albums aren't too closely grouped together.  All are in the top 100 though

Time always wins.

I stuck to bands actually in symphonic here at PA. It would change drastically if I were to add symphonic albums added from bands in other subgenres. Something like this:
  1. VdGG - Pawn Hearts
  2. Il Balletto di Bronzo - YS
  3. Gentle Giant - Three Friends
  4. Genesis - Nursery Cryme
  5. ITCOTCK - King Crimson
  6. Ange - Au-delà du Délire
  7. Banco del Mutuo Soccorso - St
  8. Museo Rosenbach - Zarathustra
  9. PFM - Storia Di Un Minuto
  10. Yes - Close to the Edge
  11. ELO - St (No Answer)
  12. Camel - Mirage
  13. Eloy - Inside
  14. Aphrodite's Child - 666
  15. Osanna - Palepoli
  16. Heaven & Hell - Vangelis
  17. Artcane - Odyssee
  18. Le Orme - Felone e Sorona
  19. MIA - Cornonstipicum
  20. Jethro Tull- Thick as a Brick

Over land and under ashes
In the sunlight, see - it flashes
Find a fly and eat his eye
But don't believe in me
Don't believe in me
Don't believe in me

Hey Roctopus, seems we both like early Evaghelos Odysseus Papathanasiou's music.

Both 666 and Heaven & Hell are outstanding.
