Hi everyone. There is a progressive rock show being held in Portland, OR on Saturday March 21st. This show features ARZ with Quadrivia.
ARZ is a symphonic prog rock duo that blends elements of metal, classical, and world music into sonic tales embodying literary and spiritual themes. They sound like a cross between Yes, Rush, and Emerson Lake & Palmer, and weave guitar textures of hard-edged distortion, classical fingerstyle technique, crystalline acoustic, powerful rock vocals, layered against classic percussion sounds and thumping double bass beats. They're fusing the great music from the past: 70s prog rock, jazz, classical, and world music using the technology of today. The grandness of the sound created by two people is made possible by the use of technology to allow the drummer to play orchestral percussion and keyboards along with drums, and allowing the guitarist to play other instruments through the use of a MIDI controller. http://www.thearzuniverse.com http://www.myspace.com/arzmusic Quadrivia is a four-piece progressive rock band based out of Portland, OR. http://www.myspace.com/organicacid Saturday, March 21st, 2009Community Music CenterARZ with Quadrivia - 7 pm3350 SE Francis StPortland OR 97202 USA (503) 823-3177 Price: $5

Hi,
Goodness ... Portland has progressive? Hadn't seen that since Group du Jour ... and even then ...
It's by far the saddest thing ... even jazz on the radio here is "traditional" ... and almost always centered on the top ten theme. If it sounds similar then it's top ten!
From my history involved in the experimental and progressive side of things, the main problem with a place like Portland is not that it can not support a couple of bands that can do it ... it's that the people that play it are not strong enough to do it ... and my suggestion is ... do not try to remind us of what ELP, KING CRIMSON SOUNDED like ... please ... just try to get strong and then powerful and then brilliant and then ... so you can be you and ... YOU ... and no one else.
Remember ... not a single of those bands got famous for honoring Chuck Berry ... they got famous because they were more interested in their art ... and their own work, than they were in something else ... specially something as idealistic and illusory and (flippin fickle as hell!) progressive.
Describe the depths of your soul through the instruments ... forget the rest! You will make it and be remembered then ... for who you are! Edited by moshkito - March 18 2009 at 11:48 |
