Topic: Rush "Signals" Posted: February 08 2009 at 09:00 |
On any given day any one of these I could really enjoy , Signals was my first ever experience with Rush and I have always had a special place for it . The Drumming on Digital Man sends me crazy , the emotion in Losing It really hits home , The slightly cynical yet brutally honest lyrics in Subdivisions I find enlightening and the other songs I wont describe always wet my appetite for more Rush .. Oh I forgot to Mention Alex's guitar solo in analog kid how great is that ! This is a wonderful recording I feel

My personal favourite on this album is "The Weapon", both for its music and its very true lyrics about how our own fears can be used as a weapon against us. From a musical point of view, even though I understand it may not be everyone's cup of tea, the song shows the band incorporating elements from electronic New Wave, a genre that was very popular in the early Eighties - as they incorporated reggae rhythms in my second favourite track, "Digital Man".

^^ "The Weapon" is fantastic, I considered it but ended up voting for "Losing It" for personal reasons.

I saw this post and thought I'd pop it in the Cd player and remind myself of why I love rush....,
Lee's bass lines always do it for me see Digital man.
New World Man... that brings back memories from an old band I used to play in where we used to cover it and link it in to Police's Syncronicity II... how's that for an 80 rocking / reggae medley !
Losing it is a beautiful song and one of the albums gems and gets my vote.
Thanks for the nostalgia trip.

My favourites are Subdivisions, Losing It and The Weapon in this order. If I made a top 10 Rush songs (in fact I started making one some years ago but never finished because it was so damn difficult) at least the first two would be in it.

Love Signals! "The Analog Kid" really struck me when I first bought the album over 20 years ago, and still love it. Lifeson's solo just kills.

Digital Man is one of my favorite Rush songs.
All of these are fantastic though.

I love Signals. The only weak parts are Chemistry and Countdown. I went with Losing It because it's so sadly beautiful. The sublime lyrics match perfectly with the music. No contest although there are plenty of other gems on this album.

It was in between Digital Man and Subdivisions, but I went with the latter.

'Losing It' though it's close, but those heartfelt lyrics and Ben Mink's weeping electric violin

Back and forth between Analog Kid and Losing It, both excellent songs but different ends of the emotional spectrum--in the end I voted energy over melancholy.
I remember my mom walking into the family room back in 1982 when I was listening to Losing It. Sublime, I'm thinking. She says, "This isn't music!" Ahh, memories . . .
