A tres tasty Belgian-style strong ale on lees, from Quebec's world-class Unibroue brewery.

They make many such very fine, gourmet beers -- the Quebec border is just 2-3 hours away, and just an hour from there to a large town and supermarket....

Last summer, I went there on my bike, on a whim. When I got home in the evening, and my wife asked where I'd been, I replied ''I just went to buy some beer." LOL

She wasn't too impressed -- apparently next time I do such a thing, I should tell her my plans first, and bring a cell phone.Embarrassed Ah yes -- responsibility! Unhappy

Maudite means "damned," BTW -- drink two or more (large) bottles of this strong stuff, and the next morning you'll think you have been! Wacko

SmileRemember this one, Jim? Even stronger:

"The End of the World" -- aptly named! Shocked
"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

The best beer I have in my fridge right now is a Michelob Irish Red Ale.  And only one of them.

Now that's saying something.

I've had my biggest wastin' yet back two weeks ago, in Austria, with my buddies. 8 beers, and I was unable to pronounce the letter "R" until the next day. Wacko Not to mention that we missed the 2 AM night bus, and had to got by foot an hour long, not being able to tell the street from the sidewalk apart. Embarrassed We emptied three six-packs of Gössers and Murauers combined.

Out of these, Hoegaarden...I love the interplay of the corriander & curacao with the wheat.

We used to serve Dortmunder Kronen Classic at our restaurant, but sadly Dortmunder Kronen does not produce it anymore, only Export and Pilsener, which in our opinion are not as good. So we switched to this instead:

Chimay from this list , as well as other Belgians Duvel, Schouffe, DeKoninck, Leffe, Pauwel Kwak, Petrus , Rogue, Delerium Tremens, etc.... Blanche de Chambly and Chambly Noire from Quebec, are both delicious!
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

And why not add another one while I'm at it:

This one has an attitude problem as well:

"It is quite doubtful that you have the sophistication to appreciate the depth, character and quality of this premium craft brewed beer".

Their own description:

A beer of inherent contradiction. This heavy weight of the beer world is strikingly delicate with a white gold appearance. The light fruity aroma dominates the initial confrontation; lychee, kiwi and passionfruit all prevail with subtle nuances of cherry and strawberry.

Don’t be fooled however by this smooth medium bodied ale. As it trickles down your throat as this wolf in sheep’s clothing begins to grow teeth. The bite comes as the bitterness builds and endures no matter how hard the malty sweetness of the alcohol tries to tame this ferocious beast. An exciting beer that will captivate with a whole body drinking experience.

Let's sing a song:

"Do- the stuff that makes the beer
Re- the guy who brings me beer
Mi- the person who drinks the beer
Fa- a long, long way to get beer
So- I'll have another beer
La- I'll have another beer
Ti- no thanks, I'm having beer
And that will bring us back to do, oh, oh, oh"

Love the sig, Peter. At least one of my top 10 songs...

Yeah -- such a terrific song! I recently got a very thorough Kinks 24 "hits" retrospective. It's hard to believe just how old their best stuff is. Essential songs like All day and All of the Night, You really Got Me ('64), A Well Respected Man ('65), Dedicated Follower of Fashion, Dead End Street, Sunny Afternnon ('66), Death of a Clown, Autumn Almanac, Waterloo Sunset ('67), Days ('68), Victoria ('69) and Lola ('70) were something special, and ahead of their time in sophistication, sly wit, and quaint English charm.

This is a great CD, for those who'd like to start with this very important, but too-often overlooked British Invasion band:

Thumbs Up

June, did you know that Kinks founder, vocalist and main songwriter Ray Davies recently (a year or so back) released a new "comeback" solo album, to critical acclaim? it seems he's still got it -- I'll have to seek it out! Smile

To bring this post back on thread, Sunny Afternoon of course includes the immortal verse:

My girlfriend's run off with my car,
And gone back to her ma and pa,
Telling tales of drunkenness and cruelty.
Now I'm sitting here,
Sipping at my ice cold beer,
Lazing on a sunny afternoon.

Big smile

What the heck -- here's a VERY COOL old video of the track. Dig the Flying Vee guitar! Cool

And, since you insist, June, here's the lovely Waterloo Sunset, lip synced:

and live, in 1972:

^ Keep viewinging at the end for The Village Green Preservation Society, with full orchestration and lots of backing singers. What a treat! Clap

Okay, okay! -- here's A video for Apeman, always sure to bring a wistful smile:

and then live, in 1970:

Ah, classy, classic stuff, the Kinks!Big smile

Smile ^ I have found this to be a nice Aussie beer:

Thumbs Up

It's bottle-conditioned, unfiltered & unpasteurized, so it can pour cloudy (especially if you "swirl" the last couple of ounces before pouring), but that should not scare away the unexperienced tippler. It's very good, and has reportedly won great renown for this old Adelaide family brewery.

Apparently Coopers brews a very tasty Extra Stout, too, but I've never encountered it. One to keep a hopeful eye out for!

And where are the Aussie beers on the list Question ...and not that Foster's crap that would seem to be the only beer that gets sold outside of Oz Pinch
