I really think I should start up another last.fm account so I can truly show people what I listen to. The only problem is it would be such a wide range of stuff everyone would call me a traitor.

Labrie is the archetype of the generic singer with a lot of range and basic voice. When he tries to do particularly interesting things, it usually sounds silly, any emotion he create sounds recycled, and he's unmistakeably cheesy. He's a fairly good singer, and I'm not as against him as many, but he's just never more than that.

Hammill is one of about five genuine breakthrough singers. He creates complex emotions, shades of emotion and ideas with his voice. What he does isn't always obvious on the first listen, which is a plus. His uses of harmonies are unique and challenging. When he does sing clean vocals, it's without exception amazing (just take the live version of (No More) The Submariner, or This Side Of The Looking Glass or Lost).

Sorry, there is just no comparison. This is like putting Steven Wilson against Peter Gabriel. Unoffensive vocalist vs. great vocal artist.

Not to mention, Hammill's compositions are basically the cleverest in terms of creating a relationship between the music and the ideas behind the lyrics.

When I really want to listen to Dream Theater I'll get it.

Definitely do that. It'll be worth it, especially for 1 disc, let alone receiving both of them.
