Just BARELY. Though "Open Country Joy" may be my favorite song.

Oooh good. I just bought Inner Mountain Flame. Going to look for Birds now, though - that's for sure

Definitely get it.

How did you go this long without listening to IMF or BoF? Shocked

Today was the first time I went into the Jazz section at my local record shop, and I was like - "WHOA! It's all the stuff Ive been looking for!!" LOL

Really? Awesome.

Get Romantic Warrior by Return to Forever after Birds of Fire, I'd say.

looking for it. I'm going to be going to the "HMV Megastore" sooner than later

Have you heard Comus, June?

I assume you probably have; but if not, check out First Utterance. It's amazing.

My knowledge of prog folk isn't what it should be.

On that note, I'm going to get out of my computer chair for now. Could be back really soon or later tonight or tomorrow, not sure.

It's actually not about thatTongue
Honestly, I know crap all about prog-folk.
My main areas are Prog Metal, Tech/Extreme Prog Metal, Post/Experimental metal, but I'm also very much into Post Rock too, but I imagine those 4 genres aren't your cup of tea, haha.

I'm listening to a free sampler that I got from Century Media Records.  It sucks big time.  I think that MP and BWT would be in their happy zones with it.  18 different bands playing songs that might not be out of place at a Meshuggah/Opeth festival. Heck, even Harry might like these songs.

Spirogyra kicks ass. They're still on my to buy list I'm afraid though.

But I'd add at least Dando Shaft and Steeleye Span to that list. Maybe The Pentangle and Magna Carta too.

I didn't know you were into being a fusion player Harry, that may be the most challenging of styles I think

Well, I've got a few years ahead of me to really get to know the harmonic craziness that is fusion.
I have a very good background in modes of the major scale and already I've been able to play quasi fusion modal stuff, but I've yet to go full on into the scarier end of modes of the melodic minor, which is the real killer.
My alternate picking isn't that good lately, I haven't worked on it much and it's gotten slower than it used to be, but my legato style is really happening, so I can execute some rapid fire runs in legato.
I've been really getting into Lydian mode progressions, as well as a kind of jazz fusion approach to blues by using a different Dominant chord for the I-IV-V, meaning I have to change modes each time the chord changes, as opposed to playing the same scale over each scale like you would over a regular blues.

yeah picking is one of the great hurdles of mastering guitar.. I have a good alternate style cause I flex my thumb and index finger to pick quickly,  legato is hard as well-- the thing I find most challenging in sweep-picking is getting the true  arpeggios, some are on the same string! Pinch

not so great with scales and modes, I mean I use them but i haven't really mastered incorporating them into stuff

another cool thing I've been doing more is skipping multiple strings in a scale during a solo, really brings out some nice phrases..and specifically playing the notes of chords can be good too

I actually want to go to bed, but my man should be home in a couple of hours and I haven't seen him all week, so I figured I should stay up...

I'll just fall asleep if I read.

And I've been starring at that Strawbs concert page for the past five minutes trying to decided if I should go or not
