How the hell did you know that?
As with the nearby towns of Blue Ball and Paradise, Pennsylvania, Intercourse is a popular site for tourists on account of its location in "Amish country". Its name has acquired sexual connotations unrelated to the reasons the village was named. Sign posts for the town are frequently targeted by thieves. Besides its name, Intercourse is also famous for its Amish communities. For this reason the movie Witness was filmed in Intercourse and For Richer or Poorer was set there, though not filmed in Intercourse. |

Blue Ball Funny, because I live near a town called Blue Bell - how a single vowel makes all the difference...

In reference to Blue Ball: This joins nearby towns Intercourse, Bird-in-Hand, and Virginville in the list of sexually-suggestive sounding town names in the Pennsylvania Dutch area of Pennsylvania.
Nice. Pat, have you ever seen an Amish? I'm just curious. |

I don't have a sign to print, but you guys should get a kick out of this link. I always get a chuckle when I drive by here on my way to Florida. http://parks.ky.gov/findparks/recparks/bb/

Is that an American Indian name, perchance?

I've seen some names like that in West Virginia but I can't find any of the good ones right now (I even had the state map out)

It's also a well known fact that people from Lesbos are called Lesbians.

Do they have any in the UK?
The reason I ask is because if some annoying idiot calls me up and tries to offer me a mobile 'phone again... then I'll just say I'm Amish and that we don't use 'phones and the only reason I'm on the 'phone right now is because I'm the British representative of the Amish religion and I have to keep in contact with those of my kin in Pennsylvania. |

Sure have. We used to go out to Lancaster County every now and again, and you'd often see horse-drawn carriages out and about (unfortunately, when you get behind one of these things on a single lane road it's a real nightmare). They're friendly people, but obviously holding onto their culture becomes harder and harder, enough of modern society has sort of pushed into where they live that it becomes impossible for their children to not be impacted by it, and a good number of them end up forswearing the Amish way. Do you live by the MD-PA border Ryan? Think I asked you before where in MD you lived, but I forgot. |

I think so; which reminds me of a book that I once read. I think it might have been by Louis L'amour, but it might have been from another guy (Macmurty maybe) whose name eludes me. Probably no point in me posting this because I don't remember the actual name but one of the main characters was an Indian who had a name that pertained to him having a large penis or large balls or something like that.

Biggus Dickus?
I just read and wowed in my head: The Amish are among the fastest-growing populations in the world, with an average of 6.8 children per family. Wow! |
