"Going to work" in my case takes 10 minutes, compared to the 45 minutes it took me to get to school, that's mainly why I stopped using the iPod for some time now.

No, we will not have flying cars, we don't have the energy for that, unless aliens come and give us cold fusion.

OK, results of some recent data mining.

There are 236 bands in the RIO/Avant sub.
                     46 bands in Canterbury.
                     34 bands in Zeuhl.

My quick, very rough run through of the RIO/Avant list suggests that a separate Rock-in-Opposition (original movement plus influences) sub would easily have as many bands as the two small subs mentioned above.

Pat, if you ever need support in that split, just let me know; I'm all for it and I think it would be heavily beneficial.

A few decisions at least will be tough to make, but it's worth the effort. I think making the distinction between music like Mr. Bungle, Beefheart, Zappa and Henry Cow, SMM, UZ is really important.

They're closely related, but so are RIO and Zeuhl and those are separate; you could also say Canterbury and RIO and many other sub-genres have just as good a relation as avant and RIO.

Thanks Alex - and beware, I may very well enlist you in the task.  Wink

The bolded part is basically the entire reason I'm doing this.

Pat, I fully support you wanting to make such a change.

Then again, I also fully support you enlisting Alex to do some work. The lazy slacker needs it.Tongue

I'd be willing to help for the very same reason, especially because I feel strongly about it.

It's nice to get the support guys, thanks.

Now playing:  a band I helped kick out of RIO/Avant.  Tongue

Scratch that, kicked out of Zeuhl.

It was a misclassification, most could agree that they weren't really Zeuhl at all.

Eclectic was sort of a good compromise, but I still maintain they're a Canterbury band.  Read Cesar Inca's review of the album, he nails it.
