Yeah, I guess there were a few words missing from that sentence.

What do you read?

I tend to read anything really, computer magazine, random books on certain periods of history, anything that captures my interest on the particular day I walk in there.

Yeah, I've reached 2600 artists in my last.fm.

Just 300 more to go before I have as much as the highest number I ever saw...

If only I liked more genres.

2600, christ!
I tend to listen to some stuff again and again and again though, so I don't have as many as I could have if I was one of those "listen a few times, move on" type people:P

But there's so many things to listen to!!!

The discovering never stops, it's not my fault there are so many great bands out there and only so many hours available for listening in a day. For me, it's a system like any other to keep track of all the stuff I got to get into, if I'm not already really into it.

Well, I do seek out new artists all the time really, but only in recent months have I decided to not just always listen to the same stuff:P
I should have, well over 500 artists by the mid year I suspect.

Not really.
I think in my top 50 artists, at least 15 or so aren't bands listed at PA anyway and of many of my top artists, a lot of them aren't the type of bands that are 'prog' in the classical sense of the term anyway. Lots of Tech/Extreme and Post/Experimental stuff, the stuff people don't want to be believe is prog music, lol.

Okay, but I'm guessing you not going to pick up some Robert Johnson or some Pogues, right?

Robert Johnson, blues played guy?
I've always planned on getting some of his stuff one day, I want to see where blues guitar came from I guess.
As much as I work on technique and all that, my playing never lost that blues sensibility about it, you can definitely tell when you hear me play I was influenced by Hendrix, Clapton to some extent, that kind of 60s blues rock playing.

There's not much stuff to get anyway, only had a handful of songs recorded before he passed away. But Clapton was indeed a huge fan, and Clapton does have this cover album called Me And Mister Johnson, which I own but haven't got round to.

Is there any guitar player that wasn't influenced by Hendrix? (edit: probably Bert Jansch and the likes)

And who did Hendrix want to see when he got in England (or so I hear)? Cream!

That's good to hear. I'm content, relaxing, talking to people, listening to Dream Theater.

Well, some kids actually skipped right past the 60s players and got their influences straight from 80s guys, so actually there is quite a lot of people that completely skipped direct Hendrix influence and never heard him.
You'd be surprised how many guitarists don't like his playing or music at all, but you go on guitar forums and inevitably you'll come across people like that.
I personally got really bored with anything Clapton did after Cream, but that's just me really.
Right now, I'm starting to slowly get into the basics of jazz fusion playing. I've got the technique down, but it's matter of getting those chord changes down pat really, so my playing is going to sit somewhere between late 60s blues rock stuff, fusion-y stuff, metal playing and tinges of neo-classical metal stuff.

I will commit utter blasphemy, but the time has come.

Train of Thought> Scenes From a Memory.

In fact, Tot =second best DT album ever.
I had to let that out, but it's how I feel now.

Tinges of neo-classical?

That means getting big fat rings like Malmsteen?

Honestly, listening to SFAM, I realized half the songs aren't as great as I thought they were when I was like, 15.
Dance Of Eternity, I can't even listen to anymore, it honestly bores me to tears now.
Stream of Consciousness, actually has groove unlike Dance of Eternity and well, just sounds more musical to me really, and SoC, still their best instrumental ever IMO.
