Yeah.

And relax.  I'm married.  Just like to pick on ya cos you're a prog-loving, teach-loving lady.

Don't worry, I'm very relaxed. I got my own non-prog-loving Beatlemaniac snoring in the next room (and must be very tired because he never snores... which is why I'm keeping him Tongue)

I'm just still a little confused because you all have both a real and nick name.

So do you though, June.

June isn't your real name and well... I prefer to call people by their real name.  That's just how I am.

I used to have a different name on the forum, so people still refer to me by that name and it confused newcomers like yourself.

No, Hamish is Harry.

Harry = Hamish
Harry = Harryphonies
Harry = Hazza

I'm Geck0 or James.

Oh, I figured since Hamish and James are essentially the same name that it must have been you.

Yeah, you're Geck0 on last.fm, I should have remembered.

Wow, someone just recommended these on my other forum "Tales Of Mere Existence": they are so very cool and so very true.

How are Hamish and James essentially the same?

Harry is called Hamish because he used to have a big beard that made him like Amish.  So he was Harry the Amish.  Hamish is a nice compromise.

And hey Rob.  How have you been?  It's been ages since we spoke last.

And don't worry about reading through my prose; I realise you're rather busy with life right now.

Half Lazy and Half Busy, really.

I said, I'd talk to you about it, and I will.

I wasn't expecting to have work though, so I'm thankful for that, but the hours are LONG.

Kind of.

James = Jaime
James = Jacob
James = Seamus

Oh I see where you're coming from. Wink

No, it's good that you're busy.  I'd much prefer you to be working and earning money, than reading through some terrible prose for no real reason whatsoever.

But I know you'll also keep to your promise.  I just want you to know that I'm not being pushy about it, so just take your time about it.

No, but I have a heart for this work.  I've done it for a couple of years.  I love it.

Meh, I'm sure they're the same. Seamus and Hamish sound a lot alike if you ask me.

I'm still unsure whether teaching is for me.

I have a qualification that allows me to teach over 16s.  In theory I can teach them about anything I like but in reality that's not the case.

I could teach a group of people basic computing though.  Or I could run a literacy class.

I must say, taking that course really opened my eyes to how hard it is to teach.  My 30 minute mini-lesson about RIO (yes, I really did teach them the history of Rock in Opposition!) was much tougher than I was anticipating.  The nerves got the better of me and I was only teaching fellow peers, not real students.

I wish I could help you James, but seriously, I'm not even sure how I ended up in education and I don't believe in "callings".

Teaching is hard, but you can learn 80% of it via training and practice. The other 20% is just wanting being in front of a group of students and helping there. That's the spark, that may be what people refer to as "the call". If you don't have that 20%, if you don't want to be there, forget teaching. If you don't want to deal with runny noses and parents, forget primary. If you can't handle attitude, forget high school.
