30 000 listeners on last.fm is not obscure.
My band's got 66 listeners.
edit: All right, so I just listened to Spiral Blast by Merzbow (a band I obvisously didn't know before you mentionned it) and I suddenly have this uncontrollable urge to self-mutilate...
I'll try another see what it does

Yeah, but still, Merzbow is completely devoid of melody, plus Merzbow has been around since 1979, so he's had quite a while to build up a fan base. And consider, artists/bands that formed after him have considerably more fans, he it still relatively obscure for someone with a 30 year music career. I bet the band you're looking for still has melody in it:P

Of course. It's prog-folk. It's almost all I listen to these days. Which explains why I'm hating Pulse Demon right now (although I do feel strangely drawn to it).

See told ya. Well, at least, in concept, Prog Folk is less 'obscure' than Experimental, Dark Ambient, Noise. Which explains why they have about, 2 fans on this whole website Is Jethro a prog folk band? Then otherwise, I've never heard prog folk

The differences between "prog folk", "electric folk", and "acid folk" are usually minimal if any.

I'm really intrigued, but since I have so much stuff in my collection I still have to hear, I haven't heard any Merzbow yet. They are on the top of my list though.

My most favorite noise artist ever, is Merzbow. I mean, I'm not even really into that kind of music, but if I want noise, Merzbow is my first go to.

I'd download some Merzbow (I think I'd like it, but not enough to warrant spending money on it), but I have no idea which album to start with. 1930 is the highest rated on RateYourMusic.com, so maybe I'll start there.

That's why I almost always use "prog folk" because I find it's a little more generic. Maybe it technically isn't if we go into the finer points, but hey, seems all the "folk" artists I heard in interviews didn't even want to be referred to as "folk" anyway...
