I do agree that hating everyone for being materialistic is a bit pointless.

I don't hate anyone. LOL

That's something you have to realise.

Oh wait, no, I hate Margaret Thatcher.

But she's the only person I hate.

I have an expensive laptop, so I should hate myself. Big smile

People will still be materialistic in spite of a recession, just pissed off materialists as opposed to somewhat-content materialists.  Wanting a recession is silly and self-centered, but there is nothing wrong with wanting a new distribution of wealth and taxes.

I don't really buy much anymore besides books, CDs, and clothes when I need them.  In fact, soon I'll have to work on getting rid of old junk I don't need.

Mine I fine with me too. Which reminds me that Anthony and The Johnsons and Animal Collective have new albums out tomorrow. Wee!

My motives for not wanting a recession are perfectly self centred, by the way: I just don't want to have to move out into a smaller, cheaper, uglier place. Dead And I want gaz to stay cheap too.

Shoegaze is actually a pretty fantastic genre.  You're just too limited to obscure jazz and avant, you call everything else crap, or don't even give it a chance.  I know people who listen to rap who are more open-minded.

And some people don't get humour. LOL

Obviously you were trying to be funny, but you still implied (or at least, it could be interpreted that way) that you thought it was "dull."

My parents live in a house that I consider too big (but I consider many houses too big), so I think I'd be more than happy living in a smallish apartment for the rest of my life.  I'm not sure why, but the thought of living in an apartment has excited me for as long as I can remember.  I want to get married eventually, but probably not have kids (and if so, only one and preferably adopted).

My 2-bedroom flat is already small enough as it is, it just got too expensive as my boyfriend's factory is having problems (good old automobile industry that should have diversified years ago).

Yeah, I totally agree about adoption. Kids should not be dumped and forgotten at the orphanage: recycle and reuse them, at least Wink.  My sister-in-law is Chinese, and my nephew and niece are just cute as buttons, so I'd love to have Asian looking kids too. It would make fabulous family pictures Tongue

I'm also fine living in a limited space.

I could happily live within a bedroom (well, a largish one, so I can put my CDs and stuff in there) and have a bathroom en suite and a kitchen within short distance.  I would need somewhere for the car though, I hate parking it in the street.

A garden would be nice ('cause I'm used to living with a largish garden) but certainly not essential.

I'd also quite happily drive an electric car.  I don't disobey the speed limits and no longer drive fast except on the Motorway.

So if I had an electric car, I wouldn't need to worry about petrol prices.

I also don't mind expensive alcohol.  Some things shouldn't be cheap for a reason.  Petrol shouldn't be really.

Also decoration doesn't bother me.  I don't fully understand why people decorate a house before they move out... because the new people will likely just redecorate anyhow.

So I could happily live in a white-walled apartment.

In college I live in a small room with two other guys, and I don't mind too much.  I think a one-bedroom flat would be a palace in comparison.  All I need is my stereo, music and book libraries, a fridge/microwave, a bed, and a bathroom or access to one and my materialistic needs are satisfied.  I don't plan on owning a television when I'm older, and if I do, only for games/movies and just free, basic cable.  Internet would be nice, but I could just take a hike down to the coffee shop a few hours when I feel like it and use theirs. Wink

I agree, Mike.  Although the Internet would have to be a yes for me.

The only problem with an apartment is finding space for my books and CDs... I'm finally getting fed up of the clutter I live in and where I live currently is quite a large place.  It's just I have to share it with other peoples' clutter.

Forgot to add: old, cheap video games and incense. :P

I could live on canned tuna, canned soup, ramen, cheap snacks (nuts and granola bars), apples (they're really cheap in college since all the local apple orchards), and water for the rest of my life.  In fact, I plan too so I can spend more money on music and not have to worry about what to eat.  That's probably healthier than the average diet, too.

I believe in having enough space and decor in your home to receive guests well though...

I'd have to have cooked meals every so often.  There's no way I can live on snack food. LOL

Well I don't have many guests over.  I only really like 2 or 3 at a max.  More than that and it's unbearable for me.

Of course I'd likely have a spare room/lounge but I wouldn't use it much myself.  It would be mostly for storage and guests.
