Shoegaze is actually a pretty fantastic genre.  You're just too limited to obscure jazz and avant, you call everything else crap, or don't even give it a chance.  I know people who listen to rap who are more open-minded.
Oh don't start that stupid sh*t here. Unless that is a very subtle joke I am missing.

And James doesn't even listen to that much obscure jazz, that would be me and Pat. ;-)

James clearly has an avant jazz and jazz rock thing.  More avant though.

What's so stupid about telling someone not to blindly genre hate?  Perhaps you're just projecting.

Urgh, I don't feel like drama now, especially since I'm not entirely sure yet whether or not you're just screwing with me.

I'll just say that, regardless of the intent your specific post, people sure do love their strawmen. It's amazing the effort some people put into burning that f**king strawman down.

It's about the recession.

We need it to happen.

Yes it's not good for the economy but it needs to happen.  People are materialistic whores and need a wake-up call.  We all have widescreen televisions, new stereos, every different type of console and a laptop and maybe a desktop PC as well.  So why do we need to replace them?  We don't.  People aren't buying stuff as often now.  That's understandable.  People have everything (well I don't personally but that's because I'm not especially materialistic).

People don't buy CDs so the likes of Zavvi (formerly Virgin Megastore) going tits up isn't really surprising at all.  It's a dog-eat-dog world and if they cannot hack it, then c'est la vie.  It's all about the digital age now (as much as I don't like the idea -- CDs are still preferred) and they just hadn't stepped into the 21st Century really.

As for other shops well people have finally realised they don't need designer clothes as much.  People are following the latest "being green" fad because it's cool.  Many are genuine and want to reduce their carbon footprint but many are jumping on the green bandwagon and will make money from it.

So there will be more unemployment and lots of businesses closing.  It's human nature for that to happen and in the long run it maybe a good thing.

It's like war.  None of us like the idea of war but they're often necessary.  We're over populated and it's obvious the world cannot cope and now we're seeing why.

I cannot see a light at the end of the tunnel right now... but hopefully the economy will pick up eventually.

There, I said it.

Erk...

No, we don't. We need people to be taught better values concerning money use, we need to get people to read and think more, we need to increase the percentage of people getting 5 A*-C grades above bloody 47.6. We don't need honest, hardworking people to lose jobs and homes, have difficulty providing for their children and generally lose QOL.

Without meaning to be unpleasant:

You say this, but you don't have a job to lose, you don't own a business, you haven't taken out a mortgage, you don't have children to support.

Frankly, there's a big difference between being a materialistic whore and working to where you want to be in life. People should have the right to work to get where they want to get, if they're capable of it. Just because you can't be bothered to make that sacrifice doesn't mean that other people shouldn't be allowed to.

The argument that you shouldn't do something just because you don't need to is ridiculous. People earn money to spend it, so they can enjoy themselves more/pursue their aims in life better. More power to them if they do.

Anyway, erk. Your argument is silly.

I have it on vinyl (from my parents), haven't listened in a while but it's pretty good.  I'm not crazy about The Eagles, but I definitely don't hate them.

Speaking of Michael Jackson:

I had a fourth grader (a boy) today who said meeting him was one of his dreams Shocked

Didn't know what to respond to that...

(well, actually, his dream was to meet "mayigolle jaksonne", but that's another story)

So James is making fun of strawmen with purple hats.  I don't think that's very friendly, so I wee on his preferred, overall-wearing strawmen.  I wouldn't burn it, I just piss on it to relieve my bladder.  No harm done really, in fact his strawmen probably benefit from my urine's nutrients.

But the downturn is the inevitable result of people learning those values because the prosperity before wasn't sustainable, as we see today. Or something.

I do agree that hating everyone for being materialistic is a bit pointless.

Argh!

Talk about reading between the lines and reading something incorrectly. LOL

You have completely misunderstood my point, Rob.

I'm all for recycling and trying to save the planet.  I am happy to do my bit.  I just know it won't save the planet.

I agree with your first paragraph actually.  We do need to be better educated, I'm with you on that one.  And no, we don't need honest people to lose their jobs.  I never condoned that.  You read something that wasn't there.

All I am saying is that we need an economic crisis to sort things out.  You want everything to go on as it is then?  I don't think you do.

The harsh reality is that people will lose out.  It's not what anyone wants.  People losing their jobs, their livelihood and being able to support themselves and their family.  I certainly don't want that.  My own parents are struggling as it happens, so I am fully aware of the situation.

But it's because of the way we are that we are in this position.  If people finally realise the current economic climate is partly due to themselves, then that's a good thing.  If people start to actually realise how to spend their money correctly, then great!  Some people have to suffer though.  Not everyone can be shiny happy people.

I'm not saying people cannot have luxuries.  Of course we can.  However it's gone too far.  The rich were getting richer and the poor were getting poorer.  Now the poor are getting even poorer and the rich... well we'll see.  I'm sure they won't be affected all that much.

And when I do work, I will working to earn money so I can be comfortable financially.  Not because I want to be filthy rich.

Guess I shouldn't mention in here that I'm getting my butt rocked by Saxon's new song, then, eh? Wink

But it's so goooood. You can actually smell the hairspray of all that hair metal splendor and the sweaty leather pants.

Saxon are playing in my town soon, so a friend told me.  In a pub too.

I doubt I'll go though.
