That's the beauty of hearing a band before you see them... you kind of know where they're heading but they'll still surprise you.

I prefer to have some familiarity with a band before I see them.  That's why Hawkwind went over my head a little.

Not for me.

I prefer to know some of their music, otherwise I get a bit lost and don't enjoy it as much.

If I play an album by a band just the once, I still find I barely know the album, so I can enjoy a concert by them.
