Afenginn is a hundred times better than Alamaailman. |
I beg to differ. See my above post on the page before in reply to Rico. Do you like Invert as well? Sort of like Kronos Quartet only with 2 'cellos rather than 1.

I much prefer AM to Afenginn.
AM's second album is a masterpiece and it has my ringtone on it.
|
Karmalatunkatafanktaknfa? Yeah, I like it too. I only have that and Maahan, need to get the debut. I only have Akrobakkus from Afenginn. T'was meh.

Akrobakkus isn't meh at all. It's a wonderful album.
They're not AM though and they're not trying to be either. They play a completely different style of music.

I wouldn't emphasize on "completely", since the connection with AM hit me the most (true, not throughout the whole album, but a while after the half mark...). They've got something different to offer, but they nonetheless didn't warm me a lot.

I haven't heard them. There are a lot of musical directions I am going in at the moment, here. ;-)
Rico, Akrobakkus is not meh!
I would compare Afenginn much more to Aranis than AM.

Well yes, they make klezmer music like AM do but they approach from a different angle. So yes, tangentially speaking they're linked but they do sound different. I prefer AM like you do as well though.

I haven't heard Aranis yet I don't think. I have two of theirs to check out.
Gah!
HP, check out The Cracow Klezmer Band - De Profundis
That album is beautiful and cripplingly emotional. I get similar feelings from Salle Gaveau as well yet they play different music again.
It's the violin that does it.

Yep. It's probably me not liking klezmer/gypsy/such music that much. AM electrified me with their stuff, though, so they're special. Afenginn (with Akrobakkus) didn't click the same - at all.

The Cracow Klezmer Band - De Profundis That will change your mind of Klezmer. It's one of the greatest albums ever recorded. Ajde Jano is an emotional trainwreck.

I should?
Maybe.
I have some excellent ones featuring stunning versions of tracks such as Octopus, Afterwards and even White Hammer.

The only one I've been able to find is "The Killer Lives (Live Brescia, Italy - May 21, 1972)." It's pretty awesome, it would be impeccable if the sound quality wasn't pretty bad, but that gives it a cool lo-fi almost punk attitude. I'd like more though, maybe from Godbluff-World Record and then whatever else. I've looked virtually everywhere and I can't find more, besides on torrents that would take months to download.

I have Brescia.
That's one of the best ones.
That is the one with Octopus/Theme One Medley, White Hammer and Aquarian on it, as well as W.
In fact, that's my favourite. Banton is a beast on it.

This album is completely amazing.
I think I'd cry if I saw them live.

Ok James I'll check that out. BTW, I don't have anything against Harvest, I haven't even heard it. 65 just doesn't do soft music very well. :(

Well listen to the links I posted for NS. I am about to listen to De Profundis while I do work (I will be so sad when I lose Ruckus).

Yeah, it's quite awesome and that's why I want more, especially from the '75-'76 tours.

The Godbluff/Still Life/World Record era isn't as exciting, I'm afraid.
It's all about the early material. It's much more freeform. The latter stuff is very much like the studio versions.
