I like Baroness.... but that's about all I know I think.

The sort of sound I'm going for is sorta like Pelican, but more like their older sound than their current more post rock direction and definitely not as 'clean' sounding as their latest album either.
It will have more guitar so to speak, not in the way of solos (since whenever I write in the post metal state of mind, I leave behind soloing and think more texturally), but more noticeable melodic lines to give it a slightly more traditional prog metal feel at times without straying from the core sound of post metal

How about some Math Rock mixed in with it?  I'm listening to Cheval de Frise's EP and a lot of it is quite post- sounding.

You could probably mix in some.

And you need heaviness.  That's the problem I have with Post-rock... it doesn't have enough heaviness and when it does, it just doesn't fit.

I really like The Pax Cecilia's album though... that mixes genres nicely.

I don't mind quiet, ambient parts but when they lack feeling, well, it's not my thing.

Ohh, it's heavy, I want to make at least, a 5 song EP.
Post Metal is the core of the sound...heavy chords is where it's at in the core sound.
The thing with how I approach the post metal sound, is that I take the guitar chops I've learnt over the years, like tapping/sweep picking, but I don't make solos out of them, but use them to brighten/darken the chord structure if that makes sense, it's about taking what is normally used for melodic soloing purposes and turning them into textural devices instead.
If you listen to Russian Circles, they actually have a lot of finger tapping going on in their music, but it doesn't sound 'w**ky' or anything like that, because it's about the texture than soloing, and that's how I'll make my approach.

Anything is better than that.

Except Che Whathisname and Cliff Richard.

Not that I have heard Torman Maxt mind you... I shouldn't judge something I've not heard.
