I really like Unfold the Future, but I never understood that.

I even like the Rainmaker, so what do I know. I love retro prog though, and The Flower Kings are one of the best at it. I seem to be weird in that I like the original 70's Symphonic Bands (and of course Heavy Prog bands) for the sound of their music, and therefore I like retro sounding bands whose music sounds similar. The words are different; the actual music is different, whether it is guitar tones, chords, whatever that makes it sound similar, I am not really sure. I guess the best thing about not being a musician is that I don't recognize all of the similarities that others seem to recognize.

Yeah!
Just got a call from my boyfriend! He's keeping his job after all. 
Well, only three or four days a week, but it's better than losing it altogether!

When people try to say that they are copycats, I ask them, "Name me one Yes song that sounds very much like a TFK song." Being a musician has really enhanced my understanding of it, and thus has changed some of my listening habits over the past 4 years of my life. One great example of that is Meshuggah, where I can extremely appreciate and dissect what they're doing because of the intense time signature workouts and techniques that they're using that other people don't pick up.

In my defense, I can't hear the intense time signature workouts and techniques they are using over the sound of the blood gurgling in my ears. That's what happens when a band makes your ears bleed.  |

Other than a few passing resemblances, The Flower Kings sound nothing like Yes.
But you ever heard Starcastle though?

Well, I just used Meshuggah as an example. I also realize that they're an extremely acquired taste. It's helped my understanding of all bands in general, like Rush, Yes, or whatever, but more specifically ones that I might not have "got" as much like Meshuggah, Henry Cow, etc. Did "Bleed" make your ears bleed?

Starcastle are unique in their own right, but yes, they do sound a lot more like Yes than the Flower Kings do.

STARCASTLE LOL Yeah... clone band. Doesn't mean they're necessarily bad (not my taste though), but even alot of non-musicians can tell that.
