It's sometimes tough to go to live shows with a group of musicians- they're always so much better than whoever is playing
I had a bit of fun 'playing out' when I was younger (mostly bar bands and punk bands but that's all I could find around me at the time). Sure, most people dream of fame and fortune and I'm no exception, but I really liked the buzz you get from playing your music to appreciative folks. If you can get the crowd on your wavelength, it's the best feeling there is. Doing that kind of show more often than not is what I would call 'making it'.
That's partly why I don't like most pop (and R&B and numetal and hip hop etc...); they don't look like they enjoy what they do as much as what they're getting out of it. As if the music is simply a means to fame and fortune or respect or whatever. Although I don't automatically like every band who looks like they're having fun, either...
