I just noticed on PA that the European release of Journey's new album Revelation includes two bonus tracks, Let It Take You Back and The Place in Your Heart.  Why do bands do that?  That sucks for a completionist like me.  I already bought Revelation, but now I have to try and track down 2 songs that were released only in Europe.  That really makes me mad.Angry

Don't get me started on bonus tracks. I completely ignore them most of the time and stick with the original version, since that drives me nuts.

The album is a musical unit; it should be released as such and stay as one unit.

Generally, I like bonus tracks.  Other than for obvious albums like concept albums, I never really have an issue with an album as a musical unit.  I have listened to my albums on shuffle so many times it really doesn't bother me for the most part.

Sometimes I'll listen to just tracks, but most of the time I listen to an album as one unit, with each song being a subset of that unit. I guess it's just a picky preference of mine because of how I view each album.

You're definitely not alone in that preference.  I generally listen to albums as a whole as well, but I have also been known to use the shuffle function as well.

The idea of shuffling always bugged me.

I will listen to bizarrely placed albums after one another though. I found out just now, for example, that Meshuggah is pretty good after Henry Cow. LOL

Maybe I'll try that some day.  Certainly would take something really different to cause me to think that Meshuggah was pretty good.   Sorry, I know that I break my own rule for ripping on bands in here.  I shouldn't write off the whole band based on 1 album, but Catch 33 rates as my second ever worse listening experience of progressive music.

Haha, I don't mind; you're free to express your opinion about anything. I wouldn't care if you honestly thought they sucked, you can say it if you want.

Meshuggah definitely isn't for everyone and I can certainly see why you wouldn't like them at all. What adds to that is that you picked Catch 33. All of their albums can be hard to penetrate for some people, and (to me anyway) that seems like one of the hardest. ObZen was the easiest for me to penetrate at first, followed by Destroy Erase Improve and Nothing.

Surprisingly, it didn't take me hardly any effort to get into them, especially since I'm not a huge metalhead. They're easily my favorite metal band and the only one I don't usually have to be in a "metal" mood for.

I borrowed Catch 33 from the library of all places.  They get talked about so much here, that when I saw a CD in the library from a band discussed in PA, I had no choice but to borrow it; especially after they revived me from being in complete shock to find a PA album in the library.

That's amazingly epic! I would have picked it up as well.

Thankfully you didn't have to pay for it then. The worst thing about hearing awful albums on top of the fact that it's so hyped and you don't like it is the fact that you paid for it when there are so many other albums out there you could have gotten instead.

Fortunately, I haven't really run into any albums I've heavily disliked like that (notably from here, since I hardly listened to recommendations from anywhere else in the past 3 years).

Unfortunately, the fact that I didn't have to pay for it was definitely the best part of that listening experience.

Understandable. LOLLOLLOL

I honestly couldn't see you liking them anyway. My dad shares some taste for me and was responsible for getting me into Rush (his favorite band too, and got me into several others) and my love of music, but he hated Meshuggah.

He usually doesn't hate much, but Meshuggah, Soft Machine's "Facelift", and Mr. Bungle are the ones I've found that he absolutely didn't like. LOL

This is now my room of choice.  HarrySpamBot is being far too annoying and I don't like the new name (sorry Pat!).

The name shouldn't really matter.

I can understand your frustration at the spamming, however.

The name does matter.  It's crap!

The spamming seriously is annoying me.  I may not always be that chatty but at least I don't just spam rubbish.

Oh and I met a lovely P.A. member yesterday, for all of 3 hours.  All we chatted about was Magma and RIO!

What's more important: continuing to talk to people in the same fashion as always or quitting over the choice of a name? It just seems so trivial to me.

You've spammed a good deal of pictures, which can get annoying, but I see what you mean. When David, Harry, and others spend a few posts (let alone a page or several pages) just spamming absolute rubbish, all it does is get really annoying. Angry

I may have quite a large post count for my time that I've actually spent on these forums, but many of my posts are longer and thoughtful; I never spam like that.

I don't spam like that either.  Sometimes I post the odd photo but there is often a reason for posting it.

I usually write a sentence and often a paragraph... even if it's nothing that exciting for the reader.
