Here's a quickie: When I upload cover art for new releases, I see that all of them gets resized to 200x200 pixels (or whatever is closest in size). Would it be possible to have a better default resizing?

300x300 would be much better, 500x500 a preferred quality. Even if the album graphics will never be shown in 500x500, it looks much better when sized down in quality.

Big thing is though, that the 200x200 image size makes most cover arts look rather poor - especially when blown up in size on the individual album pages.

300x300 would be fine for me, just not on the front page!
However, I think the problem is both ways: there are rare albums for which we find small covers that automatically get enlarged to 200x200, looking this way so poor.

Well, the way it is now, with images scaled down to 150x150 on the front page, is very nice I think.

But there's a huge difference in quality if the original that gets sized down is 200, 300 or 500 pixels, the difference is rather spectacular.

If the database images could be 300 or 500 the small covers on the front page - scaled down to 150 - would look extremely much sharper and better ;-)

The same thing happens with Band images - I've spent ages trying to get the Mermaid Kiss pic to look right - for some reason the database re-compresses the uploaded image (badly).

What?

Agree, too many albums shows with low quality artwork, plus many albums have the wrong artwork as well (reissues instead of original).

If the wrong artwork is shown, please report it in the "Errors and ommisions" section. Remember though that some albums have different artwork in different territories. Our policy is to show the sleeve for where the album was first issued, usually the band's home country.

Re Image quality: as far as I know, the images are stored unchanged on the server. The resizing is done in your browser. Max allowed us a while ago to upload 500x500 images, but they are not always available - which is why we sometimes use smaller sizes. The maximum size has been 200x200 for quite long, that explains the poor quality of older album covers.

The server do resize artist images still though - even if images the size of 500 pixels are allowed uploaded, they get resized to 250 pixels after uploading - which looks funny when they get blown up to 300 pixels on the artist pages.
Any chance to fix that?

Have started replacing album images - taken care of about 100 so far - someone sent me 450 or so scans, so I'll mostly be working with these at first.
