Two somewhat love/hate bands here... this one should definitely be interesting. The masters of pretension in the 70s or today... which do you like more and why?
Please: If you are not familiar with one or both of the band's material, I urge that you use the links provided and at least listen to the samples on their respective pages. ELP's PA page: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=94 TFK's PA page: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=110 As always, discussions are encouraged. Reingold's bass pushes the nose forward but only slightly

Hmmmmm. How long do I have to think about this? I'm kind of leaning towards The Flower Kings but I expect dusting off ELP and respinning them could change my mind.

A few days. Take your time. It was a hard decision for me, but I went with TFK in the end. I love them both. |

The Flower Kings for me, so much more listenable IMO.

Will take a listen to TFK's samples with an open mind, at least, but I will be very, very, very surprised if they somehow edge it over Emerson's sublime piano and the general force of ELP. Think I've wandered their way before, probably, but don't remember them that well.
Still... I'll listen... see what happens. |

TFK for me. If you would ask me which is a better/innovative band, I would definitely have to admit that ELP is way more innovative and better. But for preference, then TFK for me. They're more up to my taste.

I am not voting yet as my first 2 faves (MO and GONG )lost...so i am not bringing bad luck to my selection but as I notice my fave is already trailing 1-6, i score #2 for ELP, just for the evident superiority of Love Beach Seiously, nothing beats TARKUS!

I was sad to see Area go up against Gong -- both favourite bands of mine, and neither would I want eliminated. As For MO, voting for it was much easier for me (a no-brainer) and sorry that it lost.
I'm not the biggest ELP fan these days, but I still greatly prefer it to The Flower Kings. |

ELP makes febus romantic, you see, with a glass of Pomerol in one hand and silky sands of St-Barth between his toes , all he can envision is that Love Beach cover and that troubling caribbean prog inside
And the original Country Life Roxy album cover babes , between the palm trees , the artwork that was later BANNED in the USA, go figure! Perverted they said Edited by tszirmay - September 05 2008 at 19:44 |

You, Traitor...one more time.....
You, one of the founder of the LOVE BEACH rehabilitation project thread..............you went for The Flower Kings.
I am going to remain in exile on the silky beaches of ST.Barths lamenting about human ingratitude and definitely not sharing my Pomerol-Petrus with you!

I need me plenty of guitar in my prog so TFK all the way. And TFK is much more consistent in their output. No Love Beaches or Works Vol 2 in their discography.

Quelle connerie je viens de faire ! But irrascibility is the ball and chain around rebelious minds ! Always stirring the pot . But I love LOVE BEACH only if I have a sip of that Pomerol , nom d'une plage!

He does have a point . I really can't vote. I've only heard ELP, Tarkus and BSS, so I can't really pass judgment on ELP, and for TFK I've only heard the new album and Unfold The Future, only the latter of which I really like. So I vote Rush |

There you are! Now most of the main contributors from last time are back. I don't agree with your statement since I love TFK too, but I agree that ELP is heavily underrated (except Love Beach). |

I've heard it only once and I don't want to hear it again. If I want ELP, I'll stick one of their classic 5 albums on. |
