Some duos are guitar players/drummers, but being a bass player myself, I enjoy the relationship between drummer/bass. When these two players know each others' playing style, the sky is the limit for percussive possibilites.. WHO are your top three Bassist/Drummer combo?
TJ of Doppler "I know when I started I would have been happy to sound like the Beatles or Joe Tex or whoever. You want to sound like most bands, you want to sound like their records and that's how you learn your chops."

1. Collins, Rutherford
2. Bruford, Squire 3. Lake, Palmer For non-rio-ness. Not usually too fussed about the bass and drum coordination, since I'm a little more geared to detached bass and percussion parts. Genesis seem to be the one band where the rhythm section's cohesiveness really makes an impression for me, along with Close To The Edge Yes. |

Nik Di'Virgilio and Dave Meros from Spock's Beard are a rather unappreciated pair until you really sit down and listen to some of the sections of their music.
Bruford and Squire are another killer duo, a couple of the best in prog history, but of course! The Tool boys are damn good as well (Danny Carey/Justin Chancellor) There's many others that have caught my ear recently as well. Gong, Soft Machine (anything Canterbury it seems) and a lot of heavy prog uses the rhythm well also like Tiles. OH! A band who I'm not sure anyone else will mention who is also really good at this kind of thing is Anti-Depressive Delivery. And of course Rush is easily my favorite bass/drum duo. You can't beat Geddy and Neil. (Trying to keep my Rush-talk to a minimum) ![]() ![]() Edited by King By-Tor - September 04 2008 at 15:58 |

I prefer Collins and Rutherford individually to Peart and Lee. Am I very wrong? /why does noone appreciate Genesis that much around here? Meh. |

Wrong in my eyes
![]() People do appreciate Genesis around here, but sometimes it feels weird to type Phil Collins without having multiple insults come at the end of it. ![]() |

Non mon ami, Wetton/Bruford is a seperate entity altogether that will probably never be matched! No one mentioned it because its obvious (Lee-Peart) . But the KC boys on some nights the energy buzz was "blah" , on others so-so but when they were on, WHOOOOOOOOO! WHEEEEEEEE! The 4CD box you mention is proof positive. Monstrous stuff!

Takes two to prog-tango , you are no slouch by any stretch (plus a classy gentleman) and a good Vosne Romanee or a Pommard would not be a bad choice either ! A ta Sante! What a duo though, eh?

Dave Hope and Phil Ehart have always been a favorite of mine.
Salazar and Reingold really compliment each other beautifully on the latest Tangent, however. I noticed that right off the bat. E |

Of course, my favorite is Peart/Lee. 2nd place goes to
Vander/Top or Vander/Paganotti and 3rd to Bruford and Squire. There are
so many good ones!
I lean towards Pridgen myself, but both are fantastic. ![]()
