I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

Santana. For having only made a few albums that are some-what progressive or for that matter, good. It was the other musicians on those albums that MADE them good. Which makes sense considering Santana's lack of...guitar ability and know-how. The other choices make much more sense to stay here.

C'mon, how are The Beatles pulling over 20%? Have you all no sense of history? Without them none of the other bands, nor any on this site other than perhaps good ol' Miles now causing much gnashing of teeth over in the fusion category, would even exist as a recording enterprise. The Beatles success encouraged, or in fact demanded, that record companies (those who wanted to stay in business anyway) invest in rock and roll, which allowed the rock spectrum to expand almost exponentially.
Go give a quick listen to the American Graffiti soundtrack. (BTW, very enjoyable music on it.) But if you think that prog was somehow going to crawl out of THAT primordial ooze you are mistaken.
PROPS PROPS PROPS TOOOOOO YOU.

I'm very surprised to see the number of votes for, or rather against, The Beatles and Radiohead. The Beatles are the one band that influenced all of the prog pioneers (name an exception if you can!), and they wrote quite a few prog songs themselves. (Are those who voted them really serious or just taking the p**s, anyway?) And to even suggest Mike Oldfield should go... yeah right
