I think the problem is that you're limited within the above parameters - there's only so much Canterbury, VdGG, RIO, etc. - and being an expert in these areas and having listened to these artists for a long time you feel like you've heard all there is to hear (obviously you haven't, but you know what I mean).

You need to find a genre or some sort of music with "low hanging fruit" - you've done so much mining in Canterbury/RIO/Avant that it feels exhausted (again, even though it really isn't).

No, I don't feel I've exhausted my listening with those genres... it's just there appears to not be enough bands to cater for my requirements!

I still have UZ, Present and Miriodor albums to purchase... oh and I'd love to get that Guigou Chenevier album too.

But stuff like Volapuk and Magma albums, will just be replacing MP3s (which of course is important) and aren't new to my ears.

Oh wait... I still haven't heard much Samla Mammas Manna yet, so I'll be getting more of their stuff.  I have two of their albums and one more on its way.

Well... outside of the realm of prog, I want to start plunging into the avant-garde classical and contemporary scene.

Cornelius Cardew and many more...

Plus I'm absolutely desperate to hear Albert Huybrechts... no idea when I finally will.

Dude, I have a very diverse palette when it comes to music... there's not really anywhere else for me to go besides dire genres I know I'll dislike. LOL

See, I like Fanfare for the Common Man... but I prefer Sylvia by Focus, which uses the same Copland theme.

I also happen to prefer The Nice.

I really like Fanfare for the Common Man and Sylvia... but in the end I'd probably go with ELP. Just personal taste there though.
