Topic: The most dissapointing prog moments(NOT albums) Posted: March 16 2008 at 21:24 |
There is already a thread here for most dissapointing/worst prog albums. What I am looking for here is..well,here are mine. Missing ABWH in 89.They were scheduled to play Bonner Springs.I found out 10 years later that the show was cancelled,so I shouldn;t feel bad,i guess Missing Yes in 1994.I was supposed to go with a couple of friends but they backed out since they were too tuckered out from the previous nights show at the same venue. Missing Yes(again)in 2000 or 2002?Whenever it was that they last played Bonner Springs. Buying Yes-Union and finding out that ABWH and Yes West do NOT play on each song and that they used a bunch of session musicians. Seeing Steve Howe in 1993.He was really good. But I was hoping that since Billy Currie(Ultravox)and Nigel Glockner(Saxon)played on Turbulence, they might be there with him.I did not know that is was just a 1 man gig.And he played too much unplugged stuff. Turning on the TV back on December ? 1993 and hearing John Tesh mention that Frank Zappa had passed away

Probably just this year, I was getting fired up for the Yes 40th anniversary tour and Jon Anderson suffered that asthma attack. Seeing as I suffer from it too I know it's important to take it easy but man, I was so close. I've only seen them once (due to young age and not knowing any better), so I'm genuinely concerned that I won't get a chance to see them again.

^That too for me. I also have asthma and it is not fun at all, especially during the winter and springtime. Hopefully he will be in better shape for another tour.
On a related note, my father actually saw them in 1979 in Philadelphia on the Tormato Tour when they filmed the "Live in Philadelphia" film.

I second Jon Anderson hurting his voice and thus canceling the 40th anniversary tour.

I don't buy this asthma stuff. I mean how can you be a singer for 40 years with breathing discipline and no previous symptoms! Then suddenly: blam! An asthma attack that takes care of any future singing plans?
There's more here than meets the eye.

Yes performing "Tales from Topographic Oceans" at Madison Square Garden, NYC (I believe 1973). Boring.

A fellow Missourian. You in the Kansas City area? We reside in Liberty. Mine would be missing Marillion on the Marbles tour or missing them on the This Strange Engine tour while I lived in Milwaukee. Plans falling through at the last minute and not being able to see Rush down at Kemper Arena on the Signals tour (but got to see and meet them last summer at Verizon Wireless in Bonner Springs). E

I can believe it ,i was healthy up till i was 17 the doctor said i had asthma. Which was real random i only needed the inhaler for that year.I've never needed it since. It's weird.
My disappointing prog moment is an obvious one, its just generally Phil Collins the eighties.

Eddie Jobson's inability to continue the UK project , nearly 25 years later still dickering around. I do not understand! (And I met him with Roxy Music and talked about Curved Air ! )

Missing Jethro Tull here in Porto. I was very young, and I didn't knew Jethro yet. It was in 2000 I think.
Missing Magma at Gouveia ArtRock in 2007
Missing Van der Graff Generator this year in the same festival.

Yesterday. Jan Akkerman w/ Vlatko Stefanovski in Pula, Croatia.
Stefanovski and his band were good as usual, Jan Akkerman was HORRIBLE. Horrible performance, awful sound.
John Abercrombie three years ago wasn't very intersting...pity, because he's capable of much more.
A year ago I witnessed Glenn Branca's "Symphony For 100 Guitars". I'm sorry to say I walked out during the half of the performance.

Being a humongous KC fan since I was 17 and then FINALLY getting to see Fripp solo opening for Porcupine Tree in D.C. only to watch him slog through 45 minutes of the most boring horsesh*t I've ever seen live.
And I really do like ambient music, but this was just dreary...
