Tell me what to listen to

You know you want to.

Greetings.  I'm new to this forum, and site generally, and I'd like to ask for all of your assistance, if you would be so kind..

I'm in a lull as of late, as to what to listen to.  I have a 40g Ipod, filled only with 25g of music, and the only natural thing to do is try and fill it up, with music.  All this in hopes to find more, (good) bands that fullfill my taste.  I have been told (by a friend) that my taste is very prog-rock-oriented, hence, this post. 

So, as for my taste in music. Wether it is progressive-esque or not is for you to decide.

(rankings are arbitrary but for the most while accurate to my taste, most of these are newer bands, which I'm more accustomed to than older, although Led Zeppelin and the Beatles are influentual)

Those are all I can think of off the top of my head.. But I think tool has definitely been the defining point in my music taste and probably always will be.  I can't really see any other band surpassing my affection for tool.  I've heard some suggestions before of Opeth, Godspeed you black emperor!, and some others, but none have really hit it home for me. 

If you can help, it would be much appreciated, I consider myself pretty open minded about music, and I have a thirst to want to hear, and learn more.

edit; yes, I've tried all music, ign, and other 'similar artists', on the progressive archive, but really, is that any fun or affective?  Pretty cold if you ask me.  Oh, and I've prolly put this in the wrong forum section,I apologize, forgive me, and move it.

With the exception of a couple of Porcupine Tree albums, I have not heard music from ANY of the bands on your list whatsoever, which is quite embarrassing, given us 17 band names!

I'll go and hang my head in shame, and leave you with the thought that I'm currently listening to Pain Of Salvation : BE

of all those bands, i like 2, the mars volta & porcupine tree

anyway you can hear king crimson, genesis, yes, etc...

Tool is a decent dark prog metal band...with that said..If you really want to embrace the darkness and experience utter and total madness...two words...Pawn Hearts...by Van der Graaf Generator....if you dare.

Yeah...I know....A little cheesy and over the top....but still....
