It's official for sure. I just received my cancellation notice from LiveNation for the Kansas City show. Hope Jon is okay and all, but this really sucks. Last time I saw Yes was here, and I figure this time around was going to be a lot better.

If they do tour, it will be a very much scaled down tour, I would imagine, which is what Rick wanted, so
perhaps the "great man of the keys!" could join them!

I had been in contact with Jon fairly frequently from November through February. He works and pushes himself very hard. During that time he was on the road for 12 weeks between solo shows and the School of Rock dates. When he's not on the road he's writing and recording new material. I was surprised by his continued ambition to create music. My guess (opinion) is he may need an extended period to really rest up and heal. He will be back and strong as ever. This may be a wake up call, "Jon, you're 64, not 24!" :-). I truly believe in his mind he feels 24. TZ |

I don't know how much y'all read interviews with Jon, but I understood that on the last Yes tour he was suffering from a pneumonia which needed to be suppressed in order to finish the long tour, and I understood he basically took a very long time to recover from that.
My guess (and it's no more than a guess) is that he's now become more careful with his health. I do expect that cancelling a tour doesn't mean anything definitive about future plans (record, tour) for Yes.

Come on people, let's be real, shall we?
Jon will never be able to do a "full" tour again.
Would you? If you were his age & in his condition?
I mean he can rest for a long time, but, he is always going to be faced with this & it can come back at
anytime.
Rick understood this & that is why he opted out.
I think that the best we can hope for is a "mini" tour (I am talking a few dates here & there), Anything
thing more that that, will always be a dangerous risk.

This is, while deeply saddening, a relief for my pocketbook. Still, get well soon Jon and I hope to see Yes in the future.

Yes, I suppose you're right. It's not an incident anymore, so maybe it will just be an album and some mini-tours, after some time.

Above all else, here's hoping Jon makes a full and speedy recovery.

I think these guys will go to the grave with the creative juices flowing and why not. Most musicians would kill to be in their shoes. I suspect that his condition is probably more serious than just asthma which is bad enough on it's own. I do hope he regains his vigor. He still loves what he does.

I hope Jon gets well, I will be praying for him. Obviously his health is of more importance, but I do hope to see them live just once before they retire for good.

It's just so hard to believe that Yes has cancelled their tour due to Jon's bad health, yet Chuck Berry is playing here in NYC tomorrow, and he's 81! Little Richard is coming soon, and he's 75. How can this be?

I couldn't afford the tickets anyway. At the closest venue tickets were about $70 for the crappy seats, and about $130 for decent ones. I'll be seeing Crimson for less than half of that.
If the singer and keyboardist are in bad health, maybe it's time for a Drama lineup reunion? Without Jon or Rick, they'd more than likely be playing smaller/cheaper venues. I'd pay to see that. |

peskypesky.. age has nothing to do with it. It is health.
I thought you would know that.
Best wishes to Jon
This news is very upsetting, as mentioned before, I dont care about if Yes dont tour ever again, as long as Jon and the rest have their health.
studio band perhaps

Spot on, NaturalScience. Thanks for understanding the unique situation of people such as myself. Of course I want Jon to get better, but I'd kill to see the band touring again (would have been my first time). Obviously a healthy tour is preferable to an ill-fated/canceled one for me. |

I need some support here guys... :(
I had my first row ticket for the hollywood FL show....
As a 21 year old living in Peru, (Already had my plane ticket) this shocks me very much, coz this was probably my last chance to see em perform in my life. Now I´m going to the grave without seeing them live...
Sad thing is... back in 2005, i flew to SLC for the DT's 20 year reunion tour and my specific show was cancelled THE SAME DAY. Back then dt was my favorite band
and now this...
can someone lend me a shotgun please?

Hey everyone, way too much speculation here! I know that a legion of PA forum members are under 21 years old, but realize that life doesn't necessarily end after reaching 60 because of health. C'mon, 15 and 18 year olds die every day too. Every individual is unique. I will never forgot seeing the great drummer Buddy Rich performing in the 1970's when he was in his 70's! And he kicked ass over any prog drummer I can think of. He was totally amazing. And it's about attitude also. Jon Anderson seems to be a very hard working musician, with a love of life, and a positive outlook. That is healing in itself. Don't count Jon or Yes out yet. I think they'll be back. They have so many fans that love them. How many aging prog rock groups that you know of can still fill the large arenas and venues like they do? Not many! Long live YES!

Sad news indeed...
I hope Jon gets well soon.
In my younger days, early to late 70's - I was fortunate to attend something like 14 YES concerts.
Around '76 they did a show at the Aladdin Theater for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas.
Opening act was Renaissance. My friends and I drove-up from LA, and it was a great show.
Afterward, Jon and his lovely wife came down into the casino, and actually sat at the blackjack table
where I was playing! I could not believe it. We chatted briefly...
The man is a milestone in music history -
I wish him the best of everything, and a swift recovery.
Over the last 30 yrs. or so, whenever I have felt sad, or blue, all I have to do is listen to some Yes,
and Jon's very upbeat attitude on Life always puts a smile back on my face.
One amazing human being, to be sure . . .

Well said. I am insanely jealous of you for all the Yes shows you saw. Especially in the classic years. I've only seen them 3 times (Drama, 90125, and Masterworks). I am absolutely KICKING myself for all the times I could have seen them but didn't! AARRGGGHHHH!!! |
