In the short time I have been here at prog archives, I have become aware of the greatly varying taste of the members here.Smile That being said, I am sure that I am not the only funeral doom fan here.

So, in honor of this genre, I bring you, the funeral doom thread. Discuss your thoughts of the genre and, if you wish, make some recommendations for the fans. I myself have just recently gotten into the genre, however, I would recommend that all who enjoy this stuff look up Ahab's "The Call of the Wretched Sea" (a rather obvious rec. I know, but as I said, Im new to the genre Tongue).

So, your thoughts?

I love Doom, but this is not my favorite style.  Still, it has moments.

I like my metal slow and heavy, but sometimes funeral bands take it to a bit of an extreme that gets boring to me.

Shape of Despair is pretty great, but bands like disembowelment turn me off.  Maybe there are more out there that i'd like...

hahah i found Disembowelment to be pretty fast and trad death/doom compared to ppl like Thegothorn, Skepticism, Evoken etc.

But i would highly recomm this UK funeral sludge-doom band Esoteric.  Its not just doomy but funereal and quite beautiful stuff!!!

Funeral doom is a genre of doom metal. Doom metal is a slower, more atmospheric variant of metal that focuses on a dark and depressing sound (this is not always the case for stoner or trad. doom however). Funeral doom is an even slower and darker variant of doom metal.

And Jester, no I havent heard it. Is the band name EA, or is that an acronym (Im assuming its an acronym)? Oh, and to whoever mentioned Esoteric (superprog I think), I looked them up, and they sound really promising. I've got to get me an album.
