Since i can't find the original thread, i'm creating a new one.
And the list keeps growing:
That's stuff i'm planning to get, slowly but surely, more or less. Will cost way over $200, though |

Posted this in the RIO thread but this is as good a place to post as well: Alas, I have reached the rock bottom of my wallet again and so can't buy anymore cd's in the coming time (relying on promo's for the time being) and so two cd's I want really bad and that I've read very good reviews about are from Rune Gramofon - http://www.runegrammofon.com/
Anyone here heard them? If so, what did you think of them (make me drool....)?

I am curious about Kamelot also. I read a recent article about them in Progression magazine and it piqued my interest. They sound like a band that I might like, but as much as I like metal I have become a bit leery about purchasing metal albums from bands that I am not familiar with. I have run across too many modern metal bands that are too doomy and growly for my tastes.
From your list, the only albums that I have are the Rainbow and the Rush (of course) albums. Caress of Steel was the first Rush album that I ever purchased. I like it quite a bit and it appears to be the only Rush album that Micky likes. The opener Bastille Day is one of my favorite Rush songs. I Think I'm Going Bald is funny, unless of course it applies to you in which case it is painful. Lakeside Park is a wonderful melodic song in Rush's fine tradition of melodic songs. The Necromancer and The Fountain of Lamneth are Rush's first forays into epic songs.
Hemispheres is a must have album for heavy prog fans. It is usually cited as a favorite of most Prog/Rush fans along with A Farewell to Kings.
Permanent Waves is probably my second favorite Rush album after Moving Pictures. Along with the radio hits of Spirit of Radio and Freewill, Jacob's Ladder is a wonderful song, Entre Nous and Different Strings fit into the soft rock Rush category, and then the finale, Natural Science is one of Rush's greatest lesser known songs.
Fly By Night is the first album with Neil Peart on it. They are still more of a hard rock band then a prog band at this point. I like all of the songs on here, fanboy that I am, but the highlights are probably Anthem, By-tor and the Snow Dog, and Fly By Night.
Counterparts is a real good hard rock with alternative moments album. The instrumental track Leave That Thing Alone is really good. I would probably say that Animate, Stick It Out, and Double Agent are the other highlights of the album. Nobody's Hero is also an excellent soft rock song in the Rush vein, but I suppose that the lyrics might be considered controversial to some.
Don't know if this adds anything to your knowledge on these albums, but hopefully it helps a little bit.

Lots of good stuff in your list, Abstrakt ! I would recommend Rush's very last record "snakes and arrows" as well. And the underrated "test for echoes" is worth being purchased. |
