He rates the songs 8.5, 10, 6.5, 6.5, 7.5, 7 and 8.5 which averages out to 7.8 (or 3.9/5). I'd just like to understand why he gave masterpiece status to an album which he doesn't seem to like much other than Toccata.

That was actually my review!!!, yep I screwed up the score I should have given it 4 stars, I just couldn't bring myself to with the awesome sleeve desogn. If there is some way I can change it I'll give it the rightly give it 4 stars. Its the second review I have given on this website so of course I mess up the score, but I stand by the rest of the review.

RUSH — 2112Review by Kaji-cheempo (The Kaj)
Before this album, Rush was a band fit to be listened to only by Dungeons and Dragons enthusiasts. With the release of 2112, they proved that they were capable of producing an album that was only on one side for Wizards and Knomes. The other side: Unadulterated Magic. I'm not talking about sorcery here. No, listening to side one of 2112 is like basking in the glory on an illuminating,uh, luminous device. Rush would after this album continue to rock for some time. Then tragically, they ceased rocking. In my opinion, the album is the song "2112". The rest of the material on this album concerns warlocks or tears or something. Oh, and they have an ode to marijuana. When Rush began to smoke marijuana they became too lazy to play Dungeons and Dragons, but since their instruments were close by, they just got really good at them. |

I don't think you should change it! Some people give that album 1 star out of spite so your 5 star review balances those out.

ARZACHEL — Arzachel Review by Sean Trane (Hugues Chantraine) SPECIAL COLLABORATOR Prog-Folk Specialist
3,5 stars really!! This could be seen as the first Egg album on Marijuana as the official Egg albums would be done on LSD . If I don't finish this review , it will be the fault of double U (also known as the evil Dubya) and his friends of "tolerance zero" knocking on my door because the terrorist I must be full of oil-mass destructing weapons hidden away behind the Mosque disguised as my garden shed . Sounds silly enough????
I think you are ready for the lunacy of this album. We are dealing with a very heavily laced drugged out psychadelia but it is of great quality, very fun and giving the urge to roll a doobie (or a spliff if you wish). The short opening track Darden of Earthly Delights is clearly out to give the tone of the album but also reminding you that we are still in the 60's. Queen Street Gang and Azatoth are pure psych and gives you a good idea of the potential that the group had even back then. However I am a little more reserved towards Clean Innocent Fun which I find a tad long (especially that it is a blues track). But clearly the masterpiece is the 16 min+ monster track Metempsychosis with its unreal themes , out of this world solos and lenghty interplay. I never saw the vinyl, but I wonder how they managed to fit the last two tracks (totals up to almost 27 mins) on one vinyl side back in 1969!
Ooooooppppsss!!!! I hear that ugly knock on the door now , time to gooooooooooooo! Hey wait a minute.... I am innocent.....but screw Dubya..... Aaaaarggghhhhhhh!!!!!

ASIA - Axioms Review by Redhead @ 3:32:37 PM EST, 8/18/2004
— This Asia compilation really doesnt count,as their original albums are quite enough in terms of real progmusic.....so Mr.Bob Mc best off. leave it!! Everything Best of... actually are the record companys benefit!! They earn a lot of money!! And we the fans....are left with an empty pocket!! Avoid best of/greatest hits albums!!! Have a nice pog summer!!
Here we have vague abuse (I think- what do you say, Bob?), no sense that they have actually heard the album (or the two new tracks Bob mentioned specifically), and a small warning about compilations. I don't think anybody needs to be told what greatest hits albums are all about. However, the final sentence is very important- apparently the pog craze is returning, which is good news for all of you who have boxes of the things stashed away next to your Pokemon and Episode One collectibles
|
Guilty as charged (for it is I, Bob McBeath, or "Bob McBest-of" as the reviewer witily states)
I have been labouring the compilation reviews of late. Problem is, there's loads of them on the list of unreviewed albums Max posted. I can feel another thread coming on about the value or otherwise of compilations, and whether they should be included on this site.

aint't that the truth Ryan... and that gem.. Bob McBest-of I won't soon forget that one

"Dear Mazhar, thank you for replying to our review offer, your devotion is quite remarkable. As PA is a world-wide organization, perhaps we can offer you an administrative position within our executive, say VP of Human Resources, since you clearly have a precondition to search far and wide without any qualms whatsover. Before we submit a formal application and fly you to New York , first class, you must first review every single progressive entry on our site. Minimum 50 words, clearly legible.
