Speaking with Alan Freeman at Leicester's Ultima Thule record shop yesterday, and he revealed the 2nd edition of The Crack In The Cosmic Egg is in "press" and the authors, he and his brother, are taking pre-orders. The 1st edition of Crack, belatedly found praise in the UK heavyweight press on a half page article on Krautrock, in the Guardian at the end of last month. The 2nd edition is significantly expanded from the first, and from small snippets I've seen in progress in the last 2 years, expect it to be right up to date, and including relevant rock act from all German speaking countries - I believe German, Austrian and other jazz rock bands will be included too. Initial publicity below, but I doubt if the links work (so try this for the full page repro of info below and links:

Definitely looking forward to this. My much-loved 1st edition copy is feeling a bit run-down and battered, and could use some reinforcement...

I notice the section "Cuckoos and Scrambled Eggs" lists Rabih Abou-Khalil, an artist I can't recommend highly enough. here some videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysxv8dc4ru4&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHmnjJJ_5No&feature=related and here a link to his MySpace page, which contains a few more of his compositions. I think he might fit pretty well into the archives. http://www.myspace.com/rabihaboukhalil you may ask what an artist with an Arabian name has to do with Krautrock. the answer is that he lives in Munich now (half of the time; the other half he lives in the South of France). he has, by the way, an extraordinary talent for languages; although he did not move to Germany before 1978, when he was 21 already, he speaks it like a native speaker, without any accent even! now while I speak excellent German too after having lived here for almost 15 years I can't hide my accent. Friede and I have been to a concert of his, and he not only is a great player, he also has a great stage presence and announced every song with a little funny (sometimes hilarious) story Edited by BaldJean - March 05 2008 at 17:06 |

As a new member in progarchieves , i'm wondering why i couldn't find any trace of Rabih Abou
Khalil's works , not even his Biography . In fact , he's one of the best Lebaneses Artists and have maybe the best instrumental releases in Oriental jazz rock / fusion . Approximatly all his works took place in Germany so far , with some minor exeptions . And to be accurate in this message , i would like to state
some of his releases from 1992 till 2003 .
-- Blue Camel ( 1992 )
-- Tarab ( 1993 )
-- The Sultan's Picnic ( 1994 )
-- Odd Times ( 1997 )
-- The Cactus of Knowledge ( 2001 )
-- Yara ( 1998 )
-- Morton's Foot ( 2003 )
These are some of his releases up till now . How yu'll find him satisfying and enjoying the way i did .
