I actually found it very interesting and even gave it a 4-star rating (a short review, though)

Somehow this doesn't seem like the most (quasi-?)intellectual post in this thread. We don't rag on prog-wannabes (it's wallabees by the way) on Prog Archives, nor on any other hardworking musicians. Once again - keep it civil, hasheten. Smile

ah, more problems with angelo, me thinks you dont like me much, not that i care.  the discussion i thought was the worst prog album, however it seems im meant to stand still and look pretty.  im a musician myself, and musicians make comments like that all the time in rock bands, whos not this whos not that.  ill keep in mind youre not my friend and there are much politics at work with you.  and as i recall it is wannabe not wallabe, but what do i know, im not a beaurocrat.  the civility remark is very hurtful, i have reason to discuss this with more admins, because you seem to be very malicious with your intention to me, someone trying to enrich the Archives with tasteful album reviews and mp3s, but im uncivilized as you say.

my only intention is to be tasteful, 30 seconds to mars proclaim to be a progressive band, and in my opinion make bland tasteless music.  it seems i keep breaking imaginary rules, or maybe you just dont like my name?

30 second to mars is not prog..... but they claim they are.... do they? Oh my God the pretensiousness on those guys!

Next step: My chemical romance will claim they're prog...

Anyway, even these two bands are much better than Sigur Ros' "()" Tongue

You should listen to it more closely, it is more creative than a typical Prog album. Well I guess it has non-popular music elements in it that do not sit well with some fans, but its worth is in the experiment and concept it is trying to accomplish. It is called Discipline for a reason! The picking control that Mr Fripp does on that album is test of concentration and sheer willpower. One of the best albums, as regards to qualifying musicianship they have ever done. It is albums like that, which bring them above the Progressive rock genre into something academically recognized.

The most disappointing would be Renaissance: Renaissance days. It is their 80's stuff (B sides I think, a lot of pop). Not that it would be bad on its own, but only one song had the classic band on it and the fill in players were just not the same. I actually like the last three songs, but without John Tout or Terry Sullivan they would never be the same. I think I got over it and now I can listen on its own merits, though I rarely do.

No problem with your opinion, nor with your name here. No politics either, but feel free to talk to my fellow admins. All I'm asking is that you keep an eye on how you express yourself. I admit that what you wrote above is not the biggest problem on this site, but reading it within 20 minutes of the post I hid last night, I felt I had to let you know. W.r.t. to your remark about musicians talking like that in rock bands: possibly, but rockbands don't discuss this in such way on forums like this, which are also visited by kids.
As for the wallabees: the fact that you recognised that as the joke it was supposed to be should be sufficient to explain how dangerous expressing yourself in writing on a forum can be.
 Peace.

That's not the spirit of this thread! Cede to the part of you that wishes to rant! Lay objectivity aside! ;P

Besides, a lot of people count "boring or unrewarding to them" as bad, and that's the spirit of criticism. Personally, I find anything unoriginal and genre-typical to be bad, and say so. Like this: New Tiles album is atrocious! =P

T, quality is subjective, and good is just a word to express a certain equally subjective level of quality. Just like cold is a subjective word explaining something about the temperature of your Icelandic block of Ice.... Wink

Absolutely right. As is the fact that according to my opinion, Sigur Ros's () has NO redeeming features (I even found those in Kayo Dot)... so yes, I understand, many people have all the right in the world to think A or B is great, as I have to think those same A or B are utter waste.

Cold music could be good by the way.... when it changes...Wink

Well, Sigur Ross doesn't do much for me in general, so I agree there.... In the end I lit a fire to heat it up, but all I got was bad smell and wrinkled plastic.... Confused

Yes - Relayer: I realize that this album is sacred to a ton of you, but it is easily the most boring, pointless, rambling, and annoying album I have ever heard. Its like having my ears mutilated with a cheese grater. Not a single section on any of the tracks that I enjoyed. I payed three dollars for it, but I feel like I should be reimbursed several hundred for sitting through the entire thing. If anyone can give me a reason to re-listen, please, fire away, but boy oh boy was I disappointed on my first try.

Oh, its also worth noting that Falling Into Infinity is one of the few other albums that I consider to be entirely un-listenable in any regard.

And that is precisely the reason why you should keep listening to it. After all, there's only two kinds of music - music that makes you think that you're having your ears mutilated with a cheese grater, and boring music.

I know this'll cause a backlash, but god help me Yes's debut album is god awful, like 'Love Beach,' quality.

Ps. I love Yes, dont kill me.

One of the albums that I really didn't enjoy was "Warrior on the edge of Time" by Hawkwind. Desappointing for me, and I didn't enjoyed the vocals particularly.
