I actually enjoy playing the classics. Plus, it's really cool to understand where modern gaming has come from.

There are plenty of older titles which in my opinion are a lot better than modern ones particularly arcade racing games, platformers and RPGs. Thanks to the fact that 2d is considered out of date some game genres have practically disappeared like the old horizontal/vertical scrolling traditional shooters. Also oddly I find that I prefer beat em ups like Virtua Fighter 1 to their modern counterparts. Still on the other had strategy games have been getting better and better in recent years as faster computers allow games to get much more complex, and the FPS market is also getting much more innovative now (except Halo of course). |

^ Far Cry 2 ... I think this will be the next milestone in the history of gaming. That is, if they can deliver what they're promising ...

I'm not sure about Far Cry 2, Ubisoft have in my opinion removed one vital part of the setting; predators, in my opinion a free roaming game set in Africa is not complete unless I can watch lions hunting or something similar, in STALKER the AI is incredible at times and was always the cause of the most memorable moments of the game and this is due to the predator/prey relationship of the simulated wildlife and human factions.

I'm fairly retro (partly due to an old comp). Total Annihilation comes near the top of my list as one of the best strategy games of all time. I've not found anything that comes close to it.
Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind I will never get bored of. Even after years of playing, It still surprises me. It beats Oblivion hands down for open-endedness, and with the right mods (view extenders and texture replacers), the graphics can look AWESOME. Freelancer is a great space sim I'm playing a fair bit of. Although the storyline is fairly short, I love being able to wander around the galaxy after it has finished. As a physics student I can see how much research has gone in to creating the star systems, as apart from a few gameplay compromises, the settings are very true to life. I just started playing Pokemon Blue the other day... Happy memories! |

They are good and bad old games, just like there are good and bad new ones. History has simply weeded out the bad retro ones. Every Dynasty Warriors game, for example, will not be remembered in 10 years. Well, maybe they will be remembered, if only as an analogue to the Police Academy series.
But how about the more recent Ico and Shadow of the Colossus (PS2 games)? Those are some of the new classics. The future of retro will remember the likes of Deux Ex and Bioshock. But how many people here now even remember Spartan: Total Warrior? How about Shadowman? Final Fantasy Mystic Quest? OK, bad example. Arcana? And what happened to Bubsy? (Well, Bubsy 3D happened to Bubsy, but that's beside the point.) In due time, good games will be remembered and bad ones forgotten. |

I'm thinking of getting Devil May Cry 4. Does anyone have it already and is it as good as I expect? I've read a bunch of reviews and all have been very positive.

I haven't played the game much but my son is a big DMC fan and has been playing it constantly since it's release. From what I have played and seen and based on my sons opinion it is a lot better than DMC III and II.

If you want to try a good Pokemon type of game that isn't a total clone I can't recommend Dragon Quest Monsters : Joker for the DS enough. Edited by TheProgtologist - February 10 2008 at 23:27 |

I quite enjoyed Dynasty Warriors thank you for what it is though, a button masher, and if you owned one, it's pointless to have anymore

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3165932 Fanboyism really shows when your willing to shell out the dough for the same game twice or thrice in my case. Right now, I'm just waiting for Patapon and Wipeout:Pulse to come out for the PSP. |

I've been playing a very interesting game this evening, it's called Audio-surf and it is basically a music game /arcade racing crossover but unlike most music based games where you have a set amount of songs Audio-surf can be used with any mp3, ogg, AIFF, WMA etc file on your PC.
So far I've tried a Red Sparowes song, Gog by Peter Hammill and Wish You Were Here by PF, all of which provided their own unique challenges. |

its a lot of fun, but try doing a song with a ton of drums and that goes really fast, and you die in like 3 seconds

Uh . . . I'm pretty sure that it said the original psone version itself was included . . . meaning not just "closer to" the original, but THE original, meaning, the one that plays in the psone, so not really much of a big deal there. However, MGS2 being my favorite game and all, I would love to see this apparent ''director's cut'' version Kojima is including in the set. Now THAT does indeed make the price worthwhile.
