The first step is to double-jump out of the tunnel you're in through the hole in the ceiling.

Later on there's all sorts of references to classic NES games, like a boss fight against Mike Tyson and a few levels in 8-bit Hyrule.

Right now I'm playing guitar hero III on the ps2. When we can afford a new game system we want to get an X-Box 360...but anyway, some of my other favorite games are Okami and Katamari Damacy. Also loved Zelda games.

I loved Okami, the look of the game and some of the features(brushstrokes) were awesome.
I'm currently playing this game on my DS:
I'm a big Harvest Moon fan and so far combining the sim aspects of the game with RPG gameplay seems to work, there is a nice balance betweeen the two.

Got an XBOX 360 for X-mas
But games are expensive so right now I am playing:
Call of Duty 2
Saints Row
Oblivion
and Madden 08
I'll probably buy Assassin's Creed and COD 4 sometime soon

One of the few PC games I have, and one of the best things my PC can handle. It's a great and innovative game, buy it if you don't have it yet, it's $5-10 or so. |

Oblivion did some good things and some bad things. It made an incredible world to explore, but it completely lacks cohesiveness. Graphics do matter quite a bit to a game like Oblivion: you MUST be able to explore an expansive and attractive world or the game will lose its luster quite quickly. Combat is better and worse: it's quite a bit more tactical (with the addition of knockdowns) and allows you quite a bit more ways to fight, but magic becomes nearly useless. There are only two kinds of armor, and the best light armor is freaking ugly. Leveling is too easy, and things don't scale properly. Try to beat Kvatch at level 50 without having everyone who CAN die bite the dust, leaving you to battle 8 daedra on your lonesome (which isn't really a problem). Jumping is retarded as all hell in Oblivion -- I kept wanting to open the console and type "sv_gravity 800". You have to learn to swing your sword in the air, while you float around all the time. The game misses the idea of consequences entirely, and worse, there are people you can't kill anymore (which really annoyed me). Still, exploring the world is quite awesome in Oblivion. That is what Oblivion does well: exploration. It's not exhilarating. It doesn't have an engrossing storyline. But exploring the game world in Oblivion and doing whatever you please is an absolute blast. As for a game with story and consequences, play The Witcher. Best PC RPG since Deus Ex, and maybe even since Planescape: Torment. As for Terranigma, holy Christ, I didn't know that. How do they miss the 'States, anyway? |

I've been meaning to play The Witcher for a while now but I keep forgetting to buy it, recently I've been playing some old classics on my Sega Saturn and all the Half-Life games on my PC. The reason Terranigma didn't reach the US is probably the same reason why Europe never got any of the SNES Final Fantasies or Chrono Trigger, the publishers didn't think there was a market for Japanese RPGs. |

Brilliant, brilliant game. The sequel (hope it comes to the States) is pretty nice too.
If you ever find yourself with the new Advance Wars, I'll play ya. The Wifi is addicting.

I've been playing Red Alert 2 for years, but when I got my new computer a few months ago, I had the power required to play any new game. A few weeks ago I picked up the latest Command and Conquer installment, Tiberium Wars:
It's great. The graphics are terrific, the missions are numerous (30, I think), very challenging (even on "easy"), the videos in between are well done, with some notable actors, the units and structures are cool and many, and even on "skirmish," where I could almost always beat the PC opponent on RA2 (even on "brutal"), this game can whip my ass. It's clearly a big-budget effort!
My son loves it too -- it should keep us playing for a long time!
Any other fans of this fine game out there? Edited by Peter - January 23 2008 at 08:47 |

Peter, firstly, I didn't think you were a gamer, secondly, I didn't think you had the time for computer games and thirdly, you said "cool".
You surprise me all the time! |

Firstly, I don't play every day, but, as they say, "all work and no play...." I also like cards, chess, Scrabble, Risk, and even used to avidly play D&D in my late teens & early twenties.
Secondly, of course I have some leisure time -- I'd soon go mad if I didn't. (Did you think I read all those books at work?) Plus I seem to be on here less & less, lately....
Thirdly, the above was not a piece of academic writing, and I was born in 1960 -- I've also been known to say "far out" and "groovy," and even curse and swear upon occasion!
Re my surprising you all the time -- COOL!

I beat Mike Tyson! But I haven't gotten much further than that. I have a friend who spent his entire (and I mean ENTIRE, like 2 hours of sleep each night) long weekend on this game, and he finally got to the final boss. But he can't quite beat the Guy. |
