Sorry for three posts in a row, but I have just been watching this video that could be of interest to the people here. Yep, have you heard both of their albums? They're both quite different in places and it's obvious too that they have an influence from Anekdoten. Peter Nordins of Anekdoten actually guested on Huono parturi and one of the members of Hoyry-kone later became a sound engineer for Anekdoten.
An amazing band and I am hoping that their albums will get reissued eventually, I am in contact with Jarno Sarkula and plan to ask him that very question when I finally complete my interview with him. |

It's also very good, but it has a bit more classical-orientated sounds in it (chamber-prog mostly), but it still has the charm of the Huono parturi though.

A brilliant band indeed. I only have Huono Parturi which I have put on now, been a while. I certainly find them to be a step up from Alamaailman Vasarat. Still looking forward to your interview, james ;)

I actually prefer Alamaailman Vasarat over Hoyry-kone and I think I always will. H-k are more progressive and more avant-prog, but their albums aren't as consistent as AV's and I find the vocals hard to take on some H-k songs occasionally. The instrumental passages are astonishingly good though and that's where their charm is for me.

James, you just stated all the reasons I like h-k more :P Sometimes I find AV a little too constant that they become monotonous and dare I say a little boring. Still love 'em though, they were one of my first a-p bands so they will always stay dear.
I will keep an eye on my box. BTW, will be playing Neo Museum soon. |

Hey everyone, it's been a while since I was here last. I've really been enjoying the stuff I've found, and I plan to review some of it some day (I have a lot of stuff that only has no reviews, surprisingly--I guess it's because I'm getting a lot of music from a free music service that makes everything either too obscure or not obscure enough)
Two questions (because I always pester you with questions):
1) Would it be wrong of me to download Unrest for free (it's legal) but without Deluge? I suspect that if I do that it will be quite a while before I get the album for real, which I will eventually since I like them so much and this expires after a few years, but that means a long time without Deluge if it's a good song. The same goes for In Praise of Learning without its last track.
2) Why aren't Melt Banana included? I'm listening to Scratch or Stitch and it's at least as progressive as Boredoms.

I would just fork out the money for the albums, both brilliant in the own right. But I guess if you don't have the finances I would go for the d/l. Personally I would find it rather annoying having missing tracks, but I'm sure someone could help you fill the gaps.
Heard of them, but not their music; probably a suffice explanation at this point (cannot speak for everyone here). What era Boredoms are you referring to? |

It is annoying, but unless Deluge is a really great song I can live with it for now because I am a poor, cheap college student. My limit is usually 3 songs missing, unless it's someone I don't care about at all yet and just want to hear some full songs from. Pop Tari-era.

Ghandi, I have Melt-Banana's 13 Hedgehogs (MxBx Singles 1994-1999), but I've yet to give it a spin. I was quite surprised to find it in my local music shop and had to grab it, because CDs like this don't turn up in my neck of the woods very often.

I think that they might fit here in PA. They're a noise rock band with a strong punk influence. Their music is quite frantic and challenging, but with the high energy of punk. By the way I LOVE the vocals. They sound like a tiny squeaky female Japanese mouse! They're a great band. I really love the albums I have from them, but where should they go? They're one of the bands that I thought of including to the Noise Rock genre, but sadly the genre didn't get approved. Aside from Noise Rock, the other genres that I think Melt-Banana could fit in is Avant-prog (if the team doesn't find their punk roots too dominant) or Heavy Prog (because I can't think of another better place for them after Noise and Avant). I'll send some samples to the ZAR team in a jiffy. |

I know Melt-Banana, too, and follow their releases. They're calming down from what was basically noise-punk and is now introducing psychedelic, experimental elements. apparently Bambi's Dilemma is actually a concept album based around the decision an assassin has to make? I can't remember clearly but I'm sure I read/heard/invented that.
I love how they sound but then I actually enjoy annoying music. =) |
