Guitar: #1 Andy Latimer on Rhayader Goes to Town
#2 Steve Howe on Sound Chaser
Voice (well i dont know if these count as "solos", but what i mean is nice Acapella parts)

Akerfeld - Hours of Wealth
Chieli Minucci - Without You (one of those solos where every note has an emotional purpose)

Yes. But did you hear it on their latest live show? I don't think it came across too well, and Phil Collins sounded so bored during that...

Well, if you consider"Tarkus" to be a keyboard solo, then I will say that "Master Builder" by Gong and "The Last Seven Minutes" by Magma are drum solos, with the rest of the instruments only being accompaniment to the drums. Absolutely superb drumming in both songs! "The Last Seven Minutes" can be listened to in the archives, by the way.

Ya i agree. Tarkus isn't really one long solo, but there are hundreds of tiny little solo snippets, that just sound fantastic!
The last seven minutes is a cool song.

There's just some that strike that special chord with me.
Al Di Meola- Return Of The Jester And The Tyrant
John Petrucci- Beyond This Life
David Gilmour- Comfortably Numb
Just to name a few.

I with you on this one (although you missed the "t" in Akerfeldt). Almost any of his solos in a soft song should qualify for best solo ever.

Gotta agree with ya on Randy and Eddie, pure sweetness there. Along the same lines i would have to include Trevor Rabin's "Cant Look Away" solo, Gary Moore's "Shapes of Things" solo
Still compiling my fav's in the Prog Arena
