Fiery Furnaces song structures are out of this world. They're gaining some momentum, and have an awe-inspiring live set. Eleanor is a goddess, as well. Think it is ridiculous that they aren't on here, honestly. "Bitter Tea" is a mind-blower, but pick up "Widow City" to get hooked instantly. Delicious in the vein of Yes, my ears think they could even be the next Gentle Giant.

Aren't these guys the indie-pop darlings that Pitchfork loved to death a few years ago?

Haven't heard any of their stuff, but I heard their named tossed around quite about from the same people who rate Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse highly...  my guess is good music, but not -prog-.  Of course I'd have to listen first, but...

eh...there's a fine line between SOME indie, and prog (the decemberists, etc)...but I have to say, I think The Fiery Furnaces belong more in the Indie category...and truthfully, I'm not very impressed with them.

Definitely NOT the next Yes or GG (I don't even like GG that much...), but still, I suppose they are worth consideration from the prog crowd; however, in my eyes, they aren't very "progressive" in terms of how this site seems to view "indie"-prog bands...

I couldn't agree more. Their songs are quirky, multi-part mini suites with rambling, esoteric narrative passages about 'navajo basketball teams' and 'diamond baboons.' It's not throwback Yesesis prog, but it's really unique, well exectued, well textured and yes, Eleanor is a Goddess. Any fan of the 70s quirk-centricity needs to get over their nostalgia trip and realize that era contained an energy that still exists in a few very promising young groups. Dungen also comes to mind.

Ah yes, I heard Bitter Tea once a while ago. I can't remember the music too well, but I can see the Gentle Giant reference. I'll have to check them out again sometime.
