I agree, I have listened to The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place and it's great, however, Godspeed are still my favourites...

These are the only two post-rock bands I am familiar with. That said, I much prefer GY!BE, mostly because the vocals on the Sigur Ros stuff aren't really my cup of tea. I do like them though, just not as much as GY!BE.

Maybe it's time to resurface the ultimate post-rock thread As a newbie to this genre who started with these two bands, I prefer Sigur Ros slightly more... although I don't consider these bands remotely similar, as Sigur Ros is much more rooted in alternative rock, and GY!BE is more avant-oriented (and you know; entirely a matter of tastes here). Both great bands though...

GY!BE wins easily for me... but I got "Heima" DVD today and you can count me among SR fans too after the very first spin

GYBE is really great in a certain mood, but Sigur is pretty much the best band around. I absolutely love them with all my heart.

Sigur Rós is a good band, but Godspeed You Black Emperor simply released nothing but masterpieces. That's impossible to beat.

Godspeed wins this one by default for me; I find their music kind of boring, but unlike Sigur Ros, I can actually sit through an album of theirs.

Sigur Ros are the kings of post rock. They're much more enjoyable to listen to. Their melody can not be topped. Sigur Ros all the way.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor's Lift Your Skinny Fists is possibly one of the top Post-rock albums ever made. As good as Sigur Ros are, they just can't compare.

I used to listen to post-rock almost exclusively but know i can't stand that sadness and melancholia. Nevertheless GY!BE still is one of my favourites. So, I voted for them

Agaetis... and LYSFLATH are two of the best albums i have ever heard...
Sigur Ros take my vote though for the rest of the discography is better than Yanqui and F#...

Sigur Ros. At first I was knocked out by GY!BE and rather less impressed by Sigur Ros, but I now find that Sigur Ros stand up better to repearted listening.

Sigur Ros is what GY!BE would sound like with condensed songs and a high-pitched icelandic vocalist
Anyway, I prefer Godspeed, if only by a bit.
