I think Mars Volta and Radiohead get a lot of unnecessary flack here.

I believe, that everyone who knows Tasavallan Presidentti, likes their music on some level, more or less, but no-one dislikes them. At least I've yet to find one.

I can't recall anyone here saying they dislike Anglagard. | Anglargard's music for me is pretty good, but nobody will think the same, I remember some people blamed them for being "reggressive" instead of "progressive", maybe those who think like that are not really into Prog yet, or maybe Prog Rock isn't for them, because for me it's too hard to blame them, because it's Prog! and they're one of the best Prog band in the last 30 years, and it's certainly good and I like it too! ;-) |
Or they could just not be a fan of symphonic (or regressive music--surely you can see why some people desire innovation always); there's a lot of prog besides symph.
I feel like such an outcast reading this thread when people keep declaring that nobody dislikes ITCOTCK or Yes or Steve Wilson..Maybe I should head back to the RIO Room. ;-)
I never got Cinema Show, incidentally. I always found Fifth of Firth much better.

I've yet to hear of anyone who really can't stand Los Jaivas, Banco, or Gryphon, it seems that everyone who knows them, likes them.

Did I get into prog through Genesis? No.
Do I like REM? Not particularly.
Thank you.

the thing that impresses me... is not really his music... I like it.. but it isn't the 2nd coming of prog... that's TMV btw.... but seeing list of ALL the projects that man has been involved with. He really does have creativity to burn... you gotta respect the hell out of that.
|
exactly, everyone respects steve wison
the thread has been answered, unless someone says that they dont respect steve at all.

I don't recall anyone ever saying something bad about Oceansize in here. Ok, maybe it's because they aren't so big yet, but still, it's not like they're obscure or anything.
I've even shown them to a friend of mine (something I rarely do with the music i like) who normally listen to pop (U2, Ryan Adams, Katie Melua, Jack Jonson, Rihanna..etc.ect.). And by picking the right songs for him (like Meridith and Music for A Nurse) i got him to love it.

actually ocenasize never occurred to me, no one on here has ever said a bad word about them on here and yeah i played them to my friend scott who, seriously, listens to hip hop and rap, and even he enjoyed them, i played him heaven alive and charm offensive and unfamiliar and he loved them

I had respect for Steven Wilson up through Signify. After that a pronounced decline culminating with the crass attempt to market himself to the "lonly teenage boy" crowd of Fear of a Blank PLanet. The album is pure market research in action. No respect left for Wilson after that one and TMV is just simply awful. REM barely tolerable after Fables. No love for Oceansize either, though its better than PT for the past 3-4 releases, still just not very interesting, boring is a better word.
If you're into that type of stuff, good for you. Does nothing for me.

Bitch! Whine! Moan!
(My, we love to line up and list what we DON'T like, don't we?)
Obviously, there's no such thing as a band NO ONE dislikes (some cantankerous folks will claim to dislike a band simply BECAUSE they are popular), though there might be a few no one else has heard....

Still, I know that Tony, Bob, Micky, Jody, Guigo and Ivan must have posters of these guys all over their bedroom walls:

I think some of the bands that most of the people here likes are the big 6 from the 70's: Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, King Crimson and ELP, but of course there are a lot of excepetion, even in this thread several people expressed their dislike for some of these bands. I don't think Gentle Giant and VDGG are bands that no one dislike as many people suggested.

Having read all the above posts, I conclude that there really are no prog bands that no one really dislikes :P
Yay for individual tastes!
